Relationship Between Short Sleep, Exercise Frequency and Media Use with Oral Health in Korean Elementary School Children: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: Dental caries, periodontal disease, and malocclusion are common childhood oral diseases strongly influenced by lifestyle factors, including sleep, exercise, and media use. In Korea, the prevalence of dental caries among elementary school children is approximately 20-25%, periodontal disease 1-2%, and malocclusion 12-18%. Sleep is a key determinant of child health; insufficient sleep is linked to weakened immunity, higher systemic inflammation, and greater susceptibility to cariogenic bacteria, suggesting a potential pathway to poor oral health. This study aimed to analyze the combi

From Dental Decay to Systemic Failure: The Overlooked Consequences of Poor Oral Health.

BACKGROUND Oral diseases, though largely preventable, continue to affect billions of people worldwide and impose a significant economic burden. Global estimates from 2015 are over $350 billion in direct costs and nearly $190 billion in indirect costs to dental diseases, which disproportionately impact low-income and marginalized populations. Despite effective preventive measures such as fluoride application and minimally invasive dentistry, untreated dental caries remains the most common oral pathology. Left unmanaged, these conditions can lead to severe complications, including infective endo

Laser therapy for the management of oral mucositis: An umbrella review - official recommendations of the Polish Society for Laser Dentistry.

Oral mucositis (OM) is a common and debilitating side effect of cancer therapy that impairs nutrition, increases infection risk, and often disrupts oncologic treatment. Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) has emerged as an effective, non-invasive method for OM prevention and management. This umbrella review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines and the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology. A comprehensive search of PubMed®/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane Library identified systematic reviews and

Brazilian dentist's knowledge of minimum intervention dentistry for caries management: application of a developed knowledge scale (MIDDeC-KS) and evaluation of its psychometric properties.

AIM: To assess the knowledge of Brazilian dentists about Minimum Intervention (MI) using a Minimum Intervention Dentistry to Dental Caries-Knowledge Scale (MIDDeC-KS) and evaluate its psychometric properties. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An online scale was developed to evaluate dentists' knowledge about MI. The higher the score, the greater the knowledge and vice versa. A preliminary study was carried out with 143 dentists to validate the MIDDeC-KS. For psychometric properties analysis, convergent and discriminant validity, test-retest reliability, and internal consistency of the instrument were a

One year clinical success of pulpectomy in primary molars with iodoform-calcium hydroxide paste.

OBJECTIVES: In order to retain primary molars, eg with irreversible pulpitis or pulp necrosis, pulpectomy can be an alternative to extraction. However, reports on the success of pulpectomies in primary teeth vary widely in the literature. Thus, the objective of this study was not only to analyze the success rate of primary tooth pulpectomy 12 months posttreatment in the setting of a specialized clinic, but also to identify and analyze various factors that modify the outcome. METHOD AND MATERIALS: Between 2012 and 2018, a total of 76 dental records of the Department of Preventive and Pediatri

A retrospective cohort evaluation of preventive resin restorations.

This study measured the longevity and clinical success of preventive resin restorations (PRRs) placed in permanent teeth by multiple operators in the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at the University of Minnesota. A retrospective chart audit identified patients who had one or more PRRs placed. Only restorations of the occlusal surfaces of the first or second permanent molars were included. Each patient was given a dental examination. On completion, the patient's chronological record of treatment was reviewed for the following information: experience of the operator, type of isolation used, bonding

Kotter's change management approach to transforming oral healthcare delivery: A case study.

INTRODUCTION: Despite progress in research and technological advancements, the delivery of oral health care continues to be plagued by disparities in accessibility and affordability. Dental caries and periodontal disease remain major issues, and new challenges such as socioeconomic disparities and emerging public health dangers also contribute to the complexity of the issue. To address these challenges, dental education and oral healthcare delivery must shift their focus from disease treatment to disease prevention and health promotion. METHODS: This paper presents the framework for implement

Inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases: a troubleshooting for dentin adhesion.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are enzymes that can degrade collagen in hybrid layer and reduce the longevity of adhesive restorations. As scientific understanding of the MMPs has advanced, useful strategies focusing on preventing these enzymes' actions by MMP inhibitors have quickly developed in many medical fields. However, in restorative dentistry, it is still not well established. This paper is an overview of the strategies to inhibit MMPs that can achieve a long-lasting material-tooth adhesion. Literature search was performed comprehensively using the electronic databases: PubMed, Scien

Green Alternatives as Antimicrobial Agents in Mitigating Periodontal Diseases: A Narrative Review.

Periodontal diseases and dental caries are the most common infectious oral diseases impacting oral health globally. Oral cavity health is crucial for enhancing life quality since it serves as the entranceway to general health. The oral microbiome and oral infectious diseases are strongly correlated. Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria have been associated with periodontal diseases. Due to the shortcomings of several antimicrobial medications frequently applied in dentistry, the lack of resources in developing countries, the prevalence of oral inflammatory conditions, and the rise in bacterial ant

Periodontal and Dental Considerations in Florid Cemento-Osseous Dysplasia: Clinical and Radiographic Analysis of 11 Cases.

PURPOSE: Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD) is a well-described condition that occurs predominantly in black women. The lesion is usually asymptomatic, but in severe cases, symptoms can occur in association with focal expansion due to infection. The safety of dental procedures that involve areas with florid COD has been little discussed. Therefore, the present study aims to emphasise the importance of nonsurgical periodontal treatment in patients with periodontal diseases and COD.
