One hundred and twenty-nine unselected club feet were classified at birth into three grades of severity; 123 were followed up. The results of primary treatment were analysed and it is shown that the bad feet did worst. Serial splinting in plasters achieved lasting correction in nine in ten mild club feet, in half of the moderately deformed, but in only one in ten of the severely affected. Surgical correction succeeded in two out of three of the resistant feet, but had to be repeated in the others.

Among 140 children with vesicorenal reflux 14 patients were found to be suffering from renal insufficiency. Seven of these patients had histologically proven bilateral segmental renal hypoplasia. Thanks to early commencement and sustainment of antihypertensive therapy, the prognosis of the condition was decisively improved. Malignant tumors of the efferent biliary tracts have a serious prognosis. With reference to a large number of patients it can be demonstrated that too high a percentage (14%) are already inoperable at the first intervention and excision of the tumor is only possible in one quarter of the cases. Very often in advanced stages of malignant melanoma several organs are involved. In a small number of patients only intraabdominal metastases seem to occur. The analysis of 106 cases found in the literature and 6 cases from our department revealed the small bowel and the stomach as the main site of metastases, giving rise to intestinal bleeding and obstruction. Apart from emergency cases, even in the advanced stage of disease palliative procedures are indicated since the prognosis in individual cases is quite unpredictable, as seen in some cases with a survival time of up to seven years.

The presenting clinical pictures and courses of seven patients with thrombocytopenia, decreased megakaryocytes in the marrow, and minimal changes in other hematopoietic cell lines are described. Thirty-eight children (39 hips) with septic arthritis have been reviewed in an effort to determine the factors most important to prognosis of the hip joint. The younger patients, 3 or more years later, had poorer results by roentgenographic classification. This was particularly true of patients under one year of age. Electrophysiologic investigations were carried out on 45 patients with Bell's palsy at periodic intervals after the onset of paralysis. It was found that there was a good correlation between prognosis in Bell's palsy and the amplitude of evoked motor response obtained after six or more days of clinical paresis. In order to provide a baseline for comparison with the results of the Kasai hepatic portoenterostomy, follow-up information was obtained for 89 infants who underwent surgical exploration alone for biliary atresia from 1956 through 1975.
