Self-esteem is known to be altered in children with chronic illness. Do accelerated normal changes, such as those that occur in children with precocious puberty, also alter the child's self-esteem? A 10 1/2 year old boy presented with raised intracranial pressure and precocious puberty caused by a human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) secreting pineal germinoma. After craniospinal irradiation he improved clinically and his HCG concentration fell to an undetectable value. Two years later he remains well. Pineal germinomas are highly radiosensitive obviating the need for difficult surgery associated with high mortality.

At least in boys hypogenitalism is a constant feature of the Prader-Labhart-Willi Syndrome. Our patient, a 16 10/12 years old girl had the characteristic symptoms of the syndrome and precocious puberty. Menarche had occurred at the age of 8 6/12 years. Precocious puberty does not exclude the diagnosis of a Prader-Labhart-Willi syndrome.

BACKGROUND: The intervention of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist or in combination with recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) is still controversial for children with central precocious puberty (CPP) or early puberty (EP). This study aimed to systematically review and compare the efficacy and safety of current therapeutic regimens for CPP or EP based on different timings of intervention.
METHODS: We searched 7 databases and 2 registers for available studies from inception until December 2023. Two independent reviewers screened literature, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias.

We reviewed the hospital records of 45 boys, followed in 13 pediatric departments throughout Italy, who had undergone computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging for central precocious puberty (CPP). Twenty-seven patients (60%) had idiopathic CPP and 18 (40%) neurogenic CPP. A hamartoma of the tuber cinereum was found in six patients (33%).
