Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare extramedullary tumor composed of immature myeloid cells that may occur in association with acute myeloid leukemia or other myeloid neoplasms. We report a 75-year-old woman with JAK2-positive polycythemia vera who presented with abdominal pain, distension, and anorexia. Imaging revealed a large retroperitoneal and pelvic mass causing hydronephrosis. Biopsy demonstrated immature mononuclear cells positive for CD33, CD43, CD117, CD68, and CD163, consistent with MS with monocytic differentiation. Other malignancies were excluded, and flow cytometry was non-diagnostic

Granulocytic sarcoma (GS) is an extramedullary accumulation of proliferating myeloblasts, most commonly seen in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) but rarely associated with chronic myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, or myeloproliferative neoplasms. The skin is the most frequent site of extramedullary relapse, followed by the mediastinum, gingiva, ear, lymph nodes, central nervous system, and testis. We report a case of a 38-year-old female who presented to our clinic with abnormal vaginal bleeding. She had a history of bone marrow transplantation 5 years ago for AML. Based o

BACKGROUND: Granulocytic sarcoma (GS) or myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a tumor of hematopoietic stem cell origin composed of myeloblasts or immature myeloid cells presenting as tumor masses in an extramedullary site. The tumor can affect any site of the body but are commonly seen in the skin, bone and lymph node. It may develop de novo or concurrently with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myeloproliferative disorder (MPD) or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). MS may precede AML by months or years or present as an initial manifestation of relapse in a previously treated AML in remission. On light microscop

IntroductionMyeloid sarcoma is a high-grade hematological malignancy that rarely occurs in the breast as the tumor is generally seen in the ribs, sternum, and orbital bones. We report a case of isolated myeloid sarcoma presenting as a breast mass and reviewed the literature to raise awareness of this disease.Case presentationA 20-year-old girl presented with a painless mass located in the upper outer quadrant of the left breast. The patient underwent a bilateral breast US revealing a central retroareolar large hypoechoic solid mass about 55 × 33 mm. A core needle biopsy was performed leading t

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare extramedullary manifestation of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). Leukemic involvement of the genitourinary (GU) tract is extremely rare with only 2-7 % of the reported MS cases involving the kidney or urinary system. Patients with urinary tract MS can present with signs and symptoms related to urinary tract obstruction, hematuria, or urinary retention. Despite its rarity, MS can be diagnosed correctly with the use of ancillary tests such as immunohistochemical (IHC), flow cytometry and/or molecular testing. Right diagnosis is essential for selection of appropria

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) occurs in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In rare cases, MS can represent a form of blast transformation in patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), myelodysplastic neoplasms (MDS), or MDS/MPN. The most frequent chromosomal alterations in MS are t(8;21) or inv(16), with other alterations being reported. Cases of MS in Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)-positive MDS with fibrosis are exceedingly rare. Here, we describe such a case. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a JAK2 V617F mutation-positive MDS case occurring concurrently with MS involvi

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extramedullary tumor mass causing proliferation of mature or immature blast cells of one or more myeloid lineages. Involvement of the genitourinary tract is rare. We present a case of MS of the ureteral wall. A 74-year-old man was evaluated for left hydronephrosis and ipsilateral low back pain. A computed tomography scan showed a nodular formation in the pelvic ureter. Urinary cytology revealed cellular atypia, so ureteroscopy was performed showing a distal ureteral mass. The histological examination of the biopsy revealed to be malignant neoplasm. The patient underw

Myeloid sarcoma is a rare extramedullary tumor of immature myeloid cells. Certain known acute myeloid leukemia cytogenetic abnormalities, in particular t(8,21), has been associated with a higher incidence. Myeloid sarcoma, which rarely happens in acute promyelocytic leukemias, is more common in recurrent patients after the advent of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and are rare in untreated acute promyelocytic leukemia. We described a case of, to our knowledge, de novo myeloid sarcoma of the spine confirmed as acute promyelocytic leukemia. Myeloid sarcoma is diagnosed by spinal tumor biopsy, and

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare hematological tumor that presents with extramedullary tumor masses comprising myeloid blasts. A controversial issue is whether MS involving normal hematopoietic sites (liver, spleen, and lymph nodes) should be excluded in future studies. We aimed to compare MS characteristics and outcomes involving hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic sites and construct a prognostic nomogram exclusively for the latter.
METHODS: Data from patients diagnosed with MS between 2000 and 2018 were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) databas

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma (MS), including isolated and leukaemic MS, is an extramedullary myeloid tumour. MS can involve any anatomical site, but MS of the female genital tract is rare, with the ovaries and uterine body and cervix being the most commonly seen sites. Involvement of the vagina and vulva is extremely rare.
CASE SUMMARY: We report a rare case of MS with involvement of the vulva and vagina and massive infiltration of the pelvic floor. A 26-year-old woman presented with a vulvar mass, irregular vaginal bleeding and night sweats. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated an ill-defi

Myeloid sarcoma (MS), which involves extramedullary lesions, is classified as a unique subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). At present, no standard treatments for MS have been established. The patient was an 89-year-old man with myelodysplastic syndrome-excess blast-2 (MDS-EB-2) with a 2-year history of intermittent treatment with azacitidine (AZA) during a 4-year history of MDS. He developed painful cutaneous tumors 8 months after the second discontinuation of AZA. They were refractory for antibiotics and topical tacrolimus hydrate. A tumor biopsy was performed, and the histological findi

OBJECTIVES: Myeloid sarcoma with CBFB-MYH11 fusion may be enriched in abdominal sites. The clinicopathologic features of 11 cases are reported.
METHODS: We collected clinical features, morphology, immunophenotype, and bone marrow (BM) involvement of myeloid sarcoma cases with CBFB-MYH11 fusion.
RESULTS: Eleven of 29 total myeloid sarcoma cases were CBFB-MYH11 positive and all 11 involved abdominal sites. The blastic infiltrate was associated with eosinophils in four of 11 cases and plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) nodules in four of six cases. CD34, CD117, and myeloperoxidase were expressed

BACKGROUND Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a very rare leukemia in children. Extramedullary involvement by APL has been reported in between 3-5% of cases, mainly associated with cases of relapse. A rare case of relapse of APL in a 9-year-old child is presented with skin involvement with myeloid sarcoma. CASE REPORT A 9-year-old male child was admitted to the Oncology Service of the hospital complaining of fever, progressive fatigue, oral petechiae with severe bleeding in the oral cavity. Bone marrow examination showed some promyelocytes. Flow cytometry showed 86% immature myeloid cells w

Myeloid sarcoma is a rare presentation of acute leukemia as a solid tumor at various extramedullary sites. It may present concurrently, before or after the onset of systemic bone marrow leukemia. Unusual clinical localization may lead to misdiagnosis, or delayed diagnosis and treatment. We describe the first case, to our knowledge, of de novo myeloid sarcoma of the breast confirmed as acute promyelocytic leukemia. Immunohistochemical analysis, flow cytometry, fluorescent in situ hybridization analysis and molecular analysis using RQ-PCR of tissue samples should be routine in determining the co

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare, extramedullary hematological malignant tumor. MS, which is shown to precede acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and in which bone marrow aspiration or biopsy finds no hematological disorder, is classified as primary or isolated MS. Primary MS with no evidence of the cancer in the blood is rare. Herein, we report a case of a primary MS involved the small intestine and mesentery. A 40-year-old man with intermittent upper vague abdominal pain for 1 month was admitted to the hospital on October 20th, 2017. The pain was obviously aggravated after food ingestion, but he had

Myeloid Sarcoma (MS) is a rare malignancy that can present as an isolated disease or more frequently in association with or following acute myeloid leukemia or other myeloid neoplasms and rarely following myelofibrosis. Since molecular pathogenesis and prognostic factors of MS are not well understood, its prognosis remains poor even in the era of novel agents and target therapies. We report the case of a patient with MS following myelofibrosis with multiple subcutaneous, cutaneous and muscle localizations; the latter has been reported in the literature as anecdotal. In this way we aimed to enh
