Complexes of sodium pentacyanoamine ferrate (TPF) with amylnitrite and with butylnitrite showed hypotensive activity equal to that of sodium nitroprusside, as tested intravenously, in unanesthetized , instrumented Rhesus, monkeys. The complex with n-octylamine, on the other hand, had significantly lower activity. These complexes produced only marginal hypotensive effects when administered orally in a dose of 10 mg/kg to spontaneously hypertensive rats.

Hyperkinetic movement disorders may be difficult to treat, but cases where patients respond to alcohol and/or drugs with similar effects have been described. We report the case of a 64-year-old man with tardive dyskinesia characterized by severe uncontrolled dystonic and myoclonic jerks of the face, shoulders, and arm and forearm muscles, which improved with oral sodium oxybate. Our case suggests the possibility to test sodium oxybate in patients with severe, drug-resistant hyperkinetic syndromes, especially when they are known to improve with alcohol.

Drug induced alopecia may range from a barely detectable shedding to an irreversible baldness. Alopecia associated with valproate is a dose-dependent and reversible side effect. We hereby report, three cases of alopecia that occurred in patients who received sodium valproate for various neurological conditions. In all three cases, long term exposure of valproate therapy led to the development of alopecia which eventually resolved after dose reduction or discontinuation. The Naranjo's causality assessment scale indicated valproate as the probable cause of the alopecia in all our patients.

Case. We report a case of severe methemoglobinemia due to sodium nitrite poisoning. A 28-year-old man was brought to our emergency department because of transient loss of consciousness and cyanosis. He was immediately intubated and ventilated with 100% oxygen. A blood test revealed a methemoglobin level of 92.5%. Outcome. We treated the patient with gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and methylene blue (2 mg/kg) administered intravenously.
