Chronic Diarrhea and Weight Loss in a 27-Year-Old: Highlighting Collagenous Gastritis as a Rarely Encountered Entity.

A 27-year-old male presented with chronic diarrhea, bloating, and abdominal pain since age 13. Initially attributed to lactose intolerance, … e atrophic, lymphocytic-like, and eosinophil-rich. Crossmon's or Masson's trichrome, Congo red, and tenascin immunohistochemistry aid in proving collagen and excluding amyloidosis. Treatment is mainly symptomatic or with proton pump inhibitors; corticosteroids may be effective in refractory cases.

Associations of alcohol use with expression of stromal markers in benign breast biopsy samples.

BACKGROUND: We explored the associations of alcohol consumption with expression of α-Smooth Muscle Actin (α-SMA), Tenascin-C (TNC), Fibroblast Activation Protein (FAP), Matrix Metalloproteinase-14 (MMP14), and Calcyclin (s100a6) stromal markers in benign breast biopsy samples. METHODS: The study included 683 cancer-free women from the Nurses' Health Study II who had biopsy-confirmed benign breast disease (BBD). Alcohol consumption was assessed with semi-quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaires. The data on breast cancer (BCa) risk factors were obtained from biennial questionnaires. Immunofl…

Aberrant methylation and expression of TNXB promote chondrocyte apoptosis and extracullar matrix degradation in hemophilic arthropathy via AKT signaling.

Recurrent joint bleeding in hemophilia patients frequently causes hemophilic arthropathy (HA). Drastic degradation of cartilage is a major c … association between DMR genes (DMGs) and extracellular matrix (ECM) organization. Among these DMGs, Tenascin XB (TNXB) expression was down-regulated in human and mouse HA cartilages. The loss of Tnxb in F8-/- mouse cartilage provided a disease-promoting role in HA by augmenting cartilage degeneration and subchondral bone loss. Tnxb knockdown also promoted …

Micro-dystrophin gene therapy demonstrates long-term cardiac efficacy in a severe Duchenne muscular dystrophy model.

Novel contribution to clubfoot pathogenesis: The possible role of extracellular matrix proteins.

Idiopathic pes equinovarus (clubfoot) is a congenital deformity of the feet and lower legs. Clubfoot belongs to a group of fibro-proliferative disorders but its origin remains unknown. Our study aimed to achieve the first complex proteomic comparison of clubfoot contracted tissue of the foot (medial side; n = 16), with non-contracted tissue (lateral side; n = 13). We used label-free mass spectrometry quantification and immunohistochemistry. Seven proteins were observed to be significantly upregulated in the medial side (asporin, collagen type III, V, and VI, versican, tenascin-C, and transform…

Extracellular matrix proteins and carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecules characterize pancreatic duct fluid exosomes in patients with pancreatic cancer.

BACKGROUND: Exosomes are nanovesicles that have been shown to mediate carcinogenesis in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Given the d … terestingly, CEACAM 1/5 expression by immunohistochemistry was seen only on tumor epithelia whereas tenascin C positivity was restricted to stroma, suggesting that both tumor and stromal cells contributed to exosomes. CONCLUSION: This is the first study showing that exosome isolation is feasible from pancreatic duct fluid, and that exosomal proteins may b …

Lubricin is Required for the Structural Integrity and Post-natal Maintenance of TMJ.

The Proteoglycan 4 (Prg4) product lubricin plays essential roles in boundary lubrication and movement in limb synovial joints, but its roles in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are unclear. Thus, we characterized the TMJ phenotype in wild-type and Prg4(-/-) mouse littermates over age. As early as 2 weeks of age, mutant mice exhibited hyperplasia in the glenoid fossa articular cartilage, articular disc, and synovial membrane. By 1 month of age, there were fewer condylar superficial tenascin-C/Col1-positive cells and more numerous apoptotic condylar apical cells, while chondroprogenitors displayed …

The diuretic torasemide does not prevent aldosterone-mediated mineralocorticoid receptor activation in cardiomyocytes.

Aldosterone binds to the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) and exerts pleiotropic effects beyond enhancing renal sodium reabsorption. Genetic Variants in the Extracellular Matrix Gene TNXB Predicted to Alter Fibronectin III Domains in Arterial Aneurysmal and Dissection Diseases.

Arterial aneurysms are vascular conditions associated with life-threatening consequences in patients, such as dissection and rupture. Understanding their genetic basis is an evolving field, driven by the robust reporting of genetic variants associated with aneurysms in patients. In this study, we present clinical and genetic data from nine unrelated subjects with arterial aneurysms who were identified to harbor rare variants in the TNXB gene, mainly affecting fibronectin type III (FNIII) domains. The cohort included three female and six male subjects with a mean age of 53.5 years (SD = 14.4).

Functions of Matricellular Proteins in Dental Tissues and Their Emerging Roles in Orofacial Tissue Development, Maintenance, and Disease.

Matricellular proteins (MCPs) are defined as extracellular matrix (ECM) associated proteins that are important regulators and integrators of microenvironmental signals, contributing to the dynamic nature of ECM signalling. There is a growing understanding of the role of matricellular proteins in cellular processes governing tissue development as well as in disease pathogenesis. In this review, the expression and functions of different MP family members (periostin, CCNs, TSPs, SIBLINGs and others) are presented, specifically in relation to craniofacial development and the maintenance of orofaci

Novel regulators of cardiac inflammation: Matricellular proteins expand their repertoire.

More than 20years ago, Paul Bornstein coined the term matricellular protein to describe a group of secreted extracellular matrix proteins with de-adhesive properties. Though this is still true today, this family of proteins is vastly expanding with new emerging functions pushing the boundaries of this classic definition. In the heart, matricellular proteins have been extensively investigated in models of myocardial infarction, pressure overload, viral myocarditis and age-related cardiomyopathy with clear implications during cardiac fibrosis yet their involvement in regulating cardiac inflammat

Thoracic Spinal Cord Contusion Impacts on Lumbar Enlargement: Molecular Insights.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is characterized by macrostructural pathological changes in areas significantly distant from the primary injury sit … terations in the cytokine profile, and a decreased expression of the extracellular matrix molecules tenascin R and aggrecan. This research highlights the complex pathological processes occurring far from the site of SCI and attempts to provide insights into the mechanisms involving the entire spinal cord in the response to such an injury.
