A serological survey using Indirect Fluorescent Antibody Test (IFAT) for Babesia ovis infection of sheep has been carried out in different geographical regions of Turkey. The results indicated that 71.6% of 141 sheep in Black Sea region, 70.9% of 93 sheep in central Anatolia, 80.2% of 96 sheep in Aegean region and 55.7% of 122 sheep in eastern Anatolia were seropositive. Particleboard residue is a by-product of the secondary wood products manufacturing industries. Large quantities of this product are landfilled for lack of better use. The objective of the current study was to investigate the possibility of using particleboard residue as a litter source for male turkeys. Spinal hydatid disease is rare, even in rural areas where echinococcosis is endemic. Although the liver and lungs are commonly involved, spinal hydatid disease, either primary or secondary, represents an uncommon but significant manifestation of the disease. The study included 36 patients (12 women and 24 men) with multiple myeloma whom we followed up until death between October 1978 and June 1995. The age range was 34 to 75 years (mean age, 53.9). Blastocysts tentatively assigned to the species Blastocystis galli were found in the turkey Meleagris gallopavo from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Length and width of blastocysts from turkeys vary in a wider range (2.5--55.1 x 2.5--51.3 mkm) than length and width of blastocysts from hens. The shape of blastocysts varies from round and oval to ellipsoid and amoeboid.

Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) infection was diagnosed in three different flocks of 12-to-16-week-old commercial meat turkeys displaying torticollis and/or opisthotonos. MG was isolated from the brain, air sacs, trachea, and sinus of one bird with neurological signs. Histological examination of brains in all three cases revealed moderate-to-severe encephalitis with lymphoplasmacytic cuffing of vessels, fibrinoid vasculitis, focal parenchymal necrosis, and meningitis. The feeding of monensin as a coccidiostat in three separate flocks of turkeys was associated with increased mortality, posterior paresis, and a skeletal muscle myopathy. Mortality attributed to the disease was 1.65%, 1.86%, and 4.80% in the three flocks.
