A case of ectopic vaginal trophoblast in association with a blighted ovum showing hydropic degeneration is presented. This combination satisfied the histological criteria of Szulman and Surti for inclusion as a partial mole. Subsequent follow-up revealed non-progression of the condition. The problems of obtaining a satisfactory classification for proliferative trophoblastic lesions are outlined.

BACKGROUND: Mature cystic teratomas (MCTs) represent common ovarian germ cell neoplasms; primary uterine teratomas are exceedingly uncommon. We report an extremely rare MCT arising within a cesarean-section scar at the anterior uterine isthmus and summarize the key imaging clues and follow-up considerations. CASE PRESENTATION: A 41-year-old woman presented with persistent postmenstrual brown vaginal discharge for over six months. Transvaginal ultrasonography and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a heterogeneous mass within the anterior uterine isthmus at the site of a prior cesa

Uterine perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) are rare neoplasms. PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway upregulation is critical for their pathogenesis and is often associated with TSC1/TSC2 inactivation. Although first line mTOR inhibitors are an effective treatment, metastatic PEComas eventually progress. A 53-year-old woman presented a 4-month history of post-menopausal vaginal bleeding. Clinical and radiological examination detected a uterine mass and a single S1 bone lesion. The patient underwent a radical hysterectomy and bone biopsy. The anatomopathological evaluation concluded to an oligo-met

BACKGROUND: Invasive mole is a subtype of gestational trophoblastic neoplasms (GTNs) that usually develops from the malignant transformation of trophoblastic tissue after molar evacuation. Invasive moles mostly occur in women of reproductive age, while they are extremely rare in postmenopausal women.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 55-year-old postmenopausal Syrian woman who was admitted to the emergency department at our hospital due to massive vaginal bleeding for 10 days accompanied by constant abdominal pain with diarrhea and vomiting. Following clinical, laboratory and radiol

Cervical carcinosarcoma (CCS), also known as malignant mixed Müllerian tumor (MMMT) of the cervix, is an exceptionally rare and aggressive biphasic neoplasm composed of both epithelial and mesenchymal malignant components. Due to its rarity, optimal management strategies are not well established, particularly in low-resource settings. Most reported cases present at an advanced stage and are associated with poor prognosis. To our knowledge, this represents the first reported metastatic case of CCS from Sub-Saharan Africa. We report a case of advanced CCS in a 33-year-old woman who presented to

BACKGROUND: Papillary squamotransitional cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix is a rare neoplasm, a subtype of transitional cervical carcinoma that appears to be a variation of squamous cervical carcinoma. It has a disposition toward metastasis at an advanced stage and local recurrence. Owing to the difficulty of illustrating the invasion histologically, misdiagnosis is likely to affect the patient's prognosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case report of an 81-year-old Caucasian patient with squamotransitional cell carcinoma with unusual clinical behavior that was primarily thought to be o

BACKGROUND/AIM: Vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN) is a rare human papillomavirus (HPV)- related premalignant condition. VaIN lesions are diagnosed histologically through colposcopy-guided biopsies of suspicious areas, conduced by gynecologists with expertise in lower genital tract diseases. The present study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of colposcopy in the diagnosis of VaIN of any grade.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis on a cohort of 149 women diagnosed with low grade (LG)-VaIN (VaIN1) and high grade (HG)-VaIN (VaIN2-3) between 2010 and 2022 at the "Regio

IMPORTANCE: There is limited large-scale evidence to guide the optimal mode of birth for patients with moyamoya disease (MMD).
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether the mode of birth (cesarean vs vaginal) is associated with stroke risk after childbirth for women with MMD.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This cohort study evaluated stroke outcomes up to 3 years after childbirth. A nationwide, population-based analysis was performed using data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service of South Korea. Individuals with MMD from January 1, 2002, to December 31, 2023 were identified. Amo

The aim of this study was to evaluate the colposcopic patterns observed in women with a histopathological diagnosis of vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN). The medical charts and the colposcopy records of women diagnosed with VaIN from January 1995 to December 2013 were analysed in a multicentre retrospective case series. The abnormal colposcopic patterns observed in women with VaIN1, VaIN2 and VaIN3 were compared. The vascular patterns and micropapillary pattern were considered separately. A grade II abnormal colposcopic pattern was more commonly observed in women with a biopsy diagnosis

A study was undertaken to evaluate the accuracy of colposcopic examination when performed without the use of endocervical curettage. It included 763 cases of suspected cervical-vaginal pathology. An additional evaluation of colposcopic accuracy was made for special-case categories of 1) stromal invasion, 2) pregnancy, 3) menopause, and 4) diethylstilbestrol (DES) exposure. Colposcopic accuracy was determined by cytologic and histologic material obtained either at the initial colposcopic evaluation or during follow-up surgery. With the literature as a standard for accuracy, it was concluded tha

The female offspring of DES-treated mothers are examined cytologically and colposcopically annually, starting at the age of seven years no treatment is indicated until a colposcopic atypical transformation zone occurs. With its occurrence all the abnormal epithelium(squamous or columnar) is excised from the vagina and cervix under colposcopic guidance in the hospital or in the office under local anesthesia. The procedures are done in stages to minimize scarring and to eliminate the possibility of vaginal-cervical adhesions or vaginal shortening. The finding of an incidence of 47% of cervical o

Choriocarcinoma belongs to a group of highly aggressive malignant gestational trophoblastic neoplasms. Choriocarcinoma is classified into two types based on the origin: a gestational type that arises following a normal or abnormal pregnancy and a non-gestational type resulting from trophoblastic differentiation of germ cells or somatic carcinomas. Primary cervical choriocarcinoma is rare; in women without a recent pregnancy, it is frequently misdiagnosed as other cervical carcinomas, which typically require surgery. Herein, we present a case of primary cervical choriocarcinoma in a 47-year-old

The co-occurrence of uterine and adnexal malignancies poses significant diagnostic challenges in distinguishing synchronous primary tumors from metastatic lesions. This study presents a rare case of concurrent dedifferentiated endometrial carcinoma (DEC) and high-grade serous tubal carcinoma and highlights the critical role of integrated pathological and molecular analyses. A 58-year-old woman presented with a 2-month history of irregular vaginal bleeding. Transvaginal ultrasound demonstrated endometrial thickening (1 cm) with intrauterine fluid accumulation. Hysteroscopic biopsy confirmed end

Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a highly malignant tumor that rarely occurs in the uterine cervix. Herein, we report 8 cases with ES arising primarily in the uterine cervix by focusing on clinicopathologic and molecular cytogenetic features and differential diagnoses. Eight cases of cervical ES were diagnosed between February, 2012, and September, 2018. The age of patients ranged from 13 to 47 years. Abnormal vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal pain were the most common symptoms. Histologically, the tumor was composed of uniform, round, and oval cells with a narrow rim of eosinophilic cytoplasm. Fibrou

Warty squamous cell carcinoma (WSCC), is a rare variant of squamous cell carcinoma that occurs mostly in younger women, but can occur in old women. It is due to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. This rare entity has been described in several organs such as vulva, cervix, and penis. To the best of our knowledge WSCC of vagina associated with the third-degree of uterine prolapse has never been reported in the literature. We present an exceptional case of WSCC of vagina occurred in a 77-year-old woman with long disease duration. The physical exam found a large ulcer-budding lesion of the midd

Breast, ovarian and uterine cancers are the most common neoplasms among women. Several mechanisms may be involved in oncogenesis and these include environmental and genetic factors. Bacteria may affect the development of some cancers, with bacterial components, their products and metabolites interacting with susceptible tissues. Commensalism and dysbiosis are important potential mechanisms involved in oncogenesis, and an effective strategy for diagnosis and treatment is required. The purpose of this review was to analyze the complex associations between these cancers in women, and the microbio

Large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas (LCNEC) are rare, aggressive high-grade neuroendocrine neoplasms within the neuroendocrine cell lineage spectrum. This manuscript provides a detailed review of published literature on LCNEC of gynecological origin. We performed a PubMed search for material available on gynecologic LCNEC. We analyzed 104 unique cases of gynecologic LCNECs, of which 45 were cervical primary, 45 were ovarian, 13 were uterine, and 1 was vaginal. A total of 45 cases of cervical LCNEC were identified with a median age of 36 years. Median overall survival was 16 months. We identif

Peritoneal keratin granulomatosis is a rare condition included under granulomatous lesions of the peritoneum. It can be secondary to neoplasms of the female genital tract and can mimic carcinomatosis intraoperatively. A case of a 40-year-old woman with a history of polycystic ovaries and a chief complaint of vaginal bleeding is presented. She was diagnosed with endometrioid adenocarcinoma with squamous differentiation in endometrial curettings. Intraoperatively, many peritoneal nodules were found, interpreted as peritoneal carcinomatosis. The woman underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy with
