Serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC) has attracted attention as a precursor lesion of high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) of the ovary. We report the rare case of a woman in whom adenocarcinoma cells were detected in cervical smears and demonstrated to be derived from STIC in the fimbria. Two hundred and fifty-seven consecutive women attending a major maternal and child health (MCH) center were studied clinically, colposcopically, cytologically, and microbiologically for different gynecologic infections. A 56-year-old woman had erosions due to pemphigus vulgaris in the inner thighs and perineum. The cutaneous lesions cleared following intramuscular gold therapy. However, because of complaints of dyspareunia, a colposcopic examination was performed and involvement of the cervix was demonstrated. The need for a vaginal examination in the monitoring of pemphigus vulgaris is emphasized.

Studies have shown the existence of computer-recognizable subvisual markers in intermediate cells from different cervical conditions that show good potential for discriminating between such "normal" cells from patients with normal, severe dysplasia/carcinoma in situ or invasive cancer cytologies. This paper presents examples of computer graphic displays, based on these markers, that could provide recognizable diagnostic clues to the cytologist, with a discussion of some of the factors involved in the interpretation of such displays.
