Emergence Point of the Infratrochlear Nerve With Reference to the Nasion and Its Clinical Implications in Craniofacial Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Infratrochlear nerve (ITN) block is widely used in craniofacial surgery to provide anesthesia and reduce perioperative discomfort. Accurate localization of the emergence point of the ITN (EP-ITN) using external landmarks may improve the precision of the block. PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify the anatomical location of the EP-ITN in the medial orbital margin with reference to the nasion, and to evaluate whether the nasion may serve as a consistent external landmark for ITN block procedure. STUDY DESIGN, SETTING, SAMPLE: This was a cross-sectional anatomic study conducted at

Minimally invasive treatment of soft tissue deficiency around an implant-supported restoration in the esthetic zone: modified VISTA technique case report.

The horizontal and vertical soft tissue dimension around an implant-supported restoration in the maxillary anterior is one of the determining factors for achieving an esthetic result. In this case report, the patient presented with a deficiency in both dimensions around a single-tooth implanted-supported restoration in the anterior maxilla. The soft tissue defects were augmented with a connective tissue graft that was placed underneath the buccal peri-implant tissue using a frenum access incision and a supraperiosteal tunneling approach (modified vestibular Incision supraperiosteal tunnel acce

Semiautomated MRI-Based Method for Orbital Volume and Contour Analysis.

PURPOSE: The architecture of the orbital cavity is intricate, and precise measurement of its growth is essential for managing ocular and orbital pathologies. Most methods for those measurements are by CT imaging, although MRI for soft tissue assessment is indicated in many cases, specifically pediatric patients. This study introduces a novel semiautomated MRI-based approach for depicting orbital shape and dimensions. DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study. PARTICIPANTS: Patients with at least 1 normal orbit who underwent both CT and MRI imaging at a single center from 2015 to 2023. METHODS: O

Assessment of bone resorption after secondary alveolar bone grafting using three-dimensional computed tomography: a three-year study.

OBJECTIVE: Secondary bone grafting plays an important role in the dental rehabilitation of patients with clefts of the lip, alveolus, and pa … following 2 years. CONCLUSIONS: Radiographic scales based on orthopantomography only evaluate the vertical dimension of the transplants. This study, however, showed that bone resorption in the transversal dimension is clearly underestimated with conventional two-dimensional radiographs.

Vertical Maxillary Movement Is Associated With Incisal Display in Orthognathic Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Maxillary incisal display (MID) is a key feature in orthodontic and orthognathic surgical planning that critically impacts esthetics and forms the basis for the vertical positioning of the maxilla. In orthognathic surgical planning, several approaches are taken to position the maxilla to determine the MID, but little evidence exists in the relationship between maxillary movement and MID. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to measure the association between MID and maxillary movements in maxillary orthognathic surgery. STUDY DESIGN, SETTING, AND SAMPLE: This was a retrospectiv

Positive outcome of occlusal freeway space reestablishment in patients with medication overuse due to chronic migraine.

Considering the great chapter of migraines, it is important to note the signs and symptoms caused by an alteration of the relationship of the facial musculature and the occlusal freeway space (FWS) that is the distance from maximal intercuspation to the habitual rest position (measurable in 1.4-2.5 mm). To any mandible position changing (detected by periodontal, muscle and joint proprioceptors), there is an influence on the neuromuscular system and then an alteration of the FWS. A group of 60 patients with chronic migraine (CM) underwent a withdrawal of overused medication and were subjected t

Avoiding condylar displacement after intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy.

The intraoral vertical osteotomy is a versatile and simple technique usually applied to correct mandibular prognathism. Its greatest advantages include ease of performance and minimum neurosensory disturbances, whereas maxillomandibular fixation is pointed as its major disadvantage. Another important concern about this technique is condylar displacement, which may lead to temporomandibular dysfunction. Technical notes to avoid condylar luxation are discussed after 15 years of experience using this osteotomy as the technique of choice to correct mandibular prognathism. Three similar cases are p
