BACKGROUND: Doctor-patient communication is an integral part of good medical practice and medical education throughout the UK. Innovative methods of clinical communication training make use of technology, including video feedback, within undergraduate learning; however, medical students may encounter barriers such as social anxiety and self-awareness that could prevent them from fully benefiting from training sessions. This study investigated the extent to which medical student anxiety and self-awareness impacted on their learning experience in video feedback workshops.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine whether the risk and severity of penetration-aspiration with mixed consistency (MIX), which consists of cooked rice and thin liquid barium (LIQUID), are different from the risks and severities with each single consistency (cooked rice or LIQUID) in dysphagic patients.

Although tremor is highly prevalent in human beings, there are few reports of tremor occurring in other mammals. Such tremor can further our insight into the mechanisms and anatomical basis of human tremor disorders. We report on a southern sea otter with a slowly progressive 6.5 to 8.5 Hz action tremor of late life that shared several clinical characteristics with essential tremor. The main pathological finding was in the cerebellum, where there was extensive vacuolation of Purkinje cells.

Cardiac bradyarrhythmias may play a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). We describe a patient with left temporal lobe epilepsy in whom high-grade atrioventricular conduction blocks were triggered by both spontaneous and stimulation-induced epileptic activity in the left temporal lobe. Electrophysiological data obtained by surface and intracranial electrodes point to a cerebral cardioarrhythmogenesis in the left amygdala and anterior hippocampus.
