PURPOSE: To assess the immunization status of young children in a predominantly Hispanic region in and around downtown Los Angeles, and factors associated with complete immunization by age 24 months.
METHODS: The information was gathered in a two-stage cluster survey with probability proportionate to estimated size (PPS) sampling of 30 clusters at the first stage, and simple random sampling of a constant number of children at the second stage. Vaccination coverage was determined by a review of the home immunization (HI) card, or of clinic records.

PURPOSE: A previous report identified Vilas County, Wisconsin, as an area highly endemic for blastomycosis based on a case series 1979-90. This study was done to compare the epidemiologic features of persons with this disease over the following six years.
METHODS: Compilation of data from the 47 mandatory physician/laboratory case reports of blastomycosis, disease onset 1991-96, received at the Vilas County Health Department; case mapping by site visit; and statistical comparison to the previous series.

Neisseria meningitidis group C type 2b, P1.2, P1.5 caused an outbreak of four cases, two of whom were members of an agricultural college in Devon, and two outside contacts of students who were documented carriers of the outbreak strain. Group A streptococci account for less than 1% of all surgical wound infections but are an important cause of nosocomial outbreaks. We report here a cluster of four group A streptococcal infections that occurred within an 11-day period on a single surgical service. The index case presented with toxic shock-like syndrome. Epidemiologic investigation did not identify any relationship between infections. Restriction endonuclease analysis and M and T typing found the four isolates to be unrelated.
