The vestibular portion of the inner ear, the three semicircular canals and their sensory cristae, is responsible for detecting angular head movements. It was proposed that sensory cristae induce formation of their non-sensory components, the semicircular canals. A long-lasting dysfunction of the eustachian tube seems to be the etiologic origin for development of chronic otitis media (COM) with mesotympanic perforation, otitis media with effusion (OME), and chronic atelectasis of the middle ear. Syryngocystadenoma papilliferum (SCAP) is an uncommon cutaneous adnexal neoplasm of apocrine gland origin. Until now, fewer than 200 cases have been reported in international literature, of which 12 cases involved the external ear. No cases of SCAP involving the middle ear have been reported. We describe a case of SCAP of external and middle ear, presenting with otomastoiditis and cerebral abscess; this aggressive behavior, never reported for a benign adenoma of the external or middle ear, could lead to a differential diagnosis with cholesteatoma or malignancies.

We report two children from an inbred Arab family with features suggestive of scalp-ear-nipple syndrome who in addition had severe hypotonia and developmental delay. Also addition, other features seen in scalp-ear-nipple syndrome such as camptodactyly, syndactyly and dry skin were absent in these children. We suggest the children in this report have a severe recessive form of this syndrome.
