This case report highlights the usefulness of bacterial culture and sensitivity testing in the prescribing of antibiotics for dental infections, demonstrated by the management of a 10-year-old child with a non-vital upper central incisor and, reportedly, associated recurrent tonsillitis.

We report a case of a 19 month old boy that presented with acneform eruption on his cheeks since birth. This condition was left untreated until the age of one. At that time the lesions developed into inflammatory nodules that resolved after topical treatment (Aknemycin fluid, cynober-sulfer pastae) and remission exist during 6 months. Based on presented case authors describe etiopatogenesis of acne and have done rewies of the literature regarding therapy, indications and safety of administration of oral retinoids to children.

OBJECTIVES: Gonorrhea cases among men who have sex with men (MSM) declined in the early years of the HIV epidemic. We evaluated more recent trends in gonorrhea among MSM through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Gonococcal Isolate Surveillance Project.
METHODS: Isolates and case information were collected from 29 US sexually transmitted disease (STD) clinics. Gonococcal urethritis cases among MSM were compared with those among heterosexual men, and cases among MSM in 1995 to 1999 were compared with earlier MSM cases.

Microscopic changes in duodenal biopsy specimens from 16 elderly patients with small-bowel bacterial overgrowth were studied before and after cyclical courses of antibiotic treatment, using computer-aided morphometry measurements as well as visual assessment. Twenty-three subjects in the same age group with no evidence of intestinal disorder were studied as controls. Mean villus height was significantly reduced in the pre-treatment study compared to the post-treatment measurements and those in controls. Similar significant differences were found in mean crypt depth and total mucosal thickness.

Listeria infections is an important cause of sepsis and meningitis in renal transplant patients. Prompt recognition and aggressive therapy are required to control this life-threatening infection. In 1972, one case of listeriosis occurred in a renal transplant recipient in our center; 1974, six more cases were detected within a period of nine months. The use of many different antibiotics to treat chest infection has led us to test the sensitivity of 68 strains of Haemophilus influenzae to 15 different compounds.
