Isoliquiritigenin alleviates ulcerative colitis by enhancing the intestinal barrier and improving intestinal microbiota via inhibiting the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic disease characterized by intestinal inflammation, mucosal damage, and immune dysregulation. Current treatments are often inadequate, driving the search for alternatives with fewer side effects. Isoliquiritigenin (ISL), a flavonoid from licorice, has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects, but its efficacy in UC remains uncertain. Male C57BL/6 mice were divided into six groups: Control, DSS model, low-, medium-, and high-dose ISL (25, 50, 100 mg/kg), and 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA, 100 mg/kg). UC was induced by administering 3% DSS, followed by ISL or 5-AS

Hypsizygus marmoreus polysaccharides protect against cisplatin-induced intestinal mucositis via modulation of gut microbiota, inflammation, and intestinal barrier function.

INTRODUCTION: Chemotherapy-induced intestinal mucositis is a frequent and debilitating complication of anticancer treatment, particularly with cisplatin, leading to disruption of the epithelial barrier, inflammation, and dysbiosis of the gut microbiota. Natural polysaccharides with antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties have attracted increasing attention as potential protective agents. This study investigated the protective effects of Hypsizygus marmoreus polysaccharides (HMP) against cisplatin-induced intestinal mucositis in mice. METHODS: HMP were extracted and structurally characteri

A feline case of intestinal small T-cell lymphoma with prominent lymphoid follicle formation and concurrent intestinal large B-cell lymphoma.

An 11-year-old castrated male mixed-breed cat presented with a 2-week history of lethargy and anorexia. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed jejunal thickening and adjacent masses. As fine-needle aspiration cytology and PCR for antigen receptor gene rearrangement of the masses suggested small T-cell lymphoma, resection biopsy was performed. Based on histopathology and immunohistochemistry, a diagnosis of small T-cell lymphoma with prominent lymphoid follicle formation and concurrent large B-cell lymphoma was made. Postoperative chemotherapy with chlorambucil and prednisolone was performed. The c

Intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (I-FABP) at ICU admission as early biomarker of intestinal injury and predictor of mortality in septic shock.

BACKGROUND: Septic shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are major causes of mortality. Intestinal hypoperfusion is a frequent but often unrecognized complication, and the timing and extent of intestinal injury in these syndromes remain unclear. Intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (I-FABP) has emerged as a potential biomarker of intestinal injury. This study aimed to define a clinically relevant I-FABP cutoff for predicting relevant intestinal injury and to assess its association with disease severity and outcome. METHODS: We performed a post-hoc analysis combining cohorts of

Chlorogenic Acid Ameliorate Lipopolysaccharide Induced Intestinal Acute Inflammatory Injury via Inhibiting Cytokines Production and Activating Intestinal Stem Cells.

Several studies have confirmed that chlorogenic acid (CGA) has beneficial effects on intestinal health. This study aimed to investigate the protective effect and underlying mechanism of CGA in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced intestinal injured mice. Histological analysis of duodenal epithelial morphology and tight junction-related gene expression indicated that CGA helps preserve intestinal barrier integrity. Quantitative PCR analysis showed that CGA suppressed the expression of pro-inflammatory factors including interferon-γ (Ifn-γ), interleukin-7 (Il-7), tumor necrosis factor-α (Tnf-α), and

Rhodiola crenulata polysaccharide alleviates dextran sulfate sodium-induced ulcerative colitis in mice by repairing the intestinal barrier and regulating the intestinal microecology.

Polysaccharides, vital biological macromolecules ubiquitous in organisms, have garnered attention as potential therapeutic candidates for ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the therapeutic potential of Rhodiola crenulata polysaccharides (RCP) in UC remains largely unexplored. The RCP was prepared by boiling water extraction, 80% alcohol precipitation, membrane separation, and D101 macroporous resin purification. The monosaccharide composition of RCP (Mw = 67.848 kDa) includes mannose, rhamnose, glucuronic acid, galacturonic acid, glucose, galactose, and arabinose, with a molar ratio of 0.22:1:0

Early Weaning Inhibits Intestinal Stem Cell Expansion to Disrupt the Intestinal Integrity of Duroc Piglets via Regulating the Keap1/Nrf2 Signaling.

There are different stress resistance among different breeds of pigs. Changes in intestinal stem cells (ISCs) are still unclear among various breeds of piglets after early weaning. In the current study, Taoyuan Black and Duroc piglets were slaughtered at 21 days of age (early weaning day) and 24 days of age (3 days after early weaning) for 10 piglets in each group. The results showed that the rate of ISC-driven epithelial renewal in local Taoyuan Black pigs hardly changed after weaning for 3 days. However, weaning stress significantly reduced the weight of the duodenum and jejunum in Duroc pig

Mice lacking intestinal Nr1i2 have normal intestinal homeostasis under steady-state conditions and are not hypersensitive to inflammation under lipopolysaccharide treatment.

Nr1i2, a nuclear receptor known for its key function in xenobiotic detoxification, has emerged as a potential regulator of intestinal homeostasis and inflammation. However, the role of Nr1i2 in different intestinal segments remains poorly known. Moreover, in vivo investigations on intestinal Nr1i2 have essentially been performed in whole-body Nr1i2 knockout (Nr1i2-/- ) mice where the deletion of Nr1i2 in all tissues may affect the intestinal phenotype. To better understand the role of Nr1i2 in the intestine, we generated intestinal epithelial-specific Nr1i2 knockout (iNr1i2-/- ) mice and studi

Orally ingested ubiquinol-10 or ubiquinone-10 reaches the intestinal tract and is absorbed by the small intestine of mice mostly in its original form.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an important lipid-soluble antioxidant and an essential component of the mitochondria. The oral bioavailability of the reduced form of CoQ10, ubiquinol-10, has been reported to be greater than that of the oxidized form of CoQ10, ubiquinone-10, in some studies. In contrast, it has also been highlighted that the oral bioavailability of ubiquinol-10 is not superior to that of ubiquinone-10 because ubiquinol-10 may be oxidized during digestion. In fact, it has not been shown which form of CoQ10 exists in the process from oral intake to absorption in the gastrointestinal tra
