Associations Between Lifetime Stressor Exposure and Externalizing Problems in Youth at Risk for Huntington Disease.

INTRODUCTION: Children face significant stressors while growing up in families impacted by Huntington disease (HD). However, the sources of these stressors and how they are related to psychological difficulties have not been well-characterized in this population. In this study, we examined the lifetime stressors experienced by youth at risk for HD using a comprehensive measure of lifetime stressor exposure and investigated how these stressors relate to psychological difficulties. METHODS: Participants included 94 adolescents ages 10-18 years, 40 of whom were at genetic risk for HD (Mage = 13.

It's time to act: Understanding and combating Vibrio vulnificus.

Vibrio vulnificus is a highly pathogenic marine bacterium that can cause life-threatening conditions such as septicemia and necrotizing fasciitis; in medically fragile individuals, mortality rates can exceed 50%. Its virulence factors, including the MARTX toxin and hemolysin VvhA, function to disrupt host cells, evade immune responses, and facilitate bacterial dissemination. Climate warming has dramatically expanded the geographic range of V. vulnificus, doubling infection risks in high-latitude northern waters, while microplastic pollution and extreme weather events further enhance its ecolog

Clinical pharmacokinetics of atropine oral gel formulation in healthy volunteers.

Sialorrhea or drooling is a common problem in children and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders. It can negatively impact the quality of life due to its physical and psychological manifestations. Providers commonly prescribe atropine eye drops for topical administration to the oral mucosa, as an off-label treatment to manage sialorrhea. However, the off-label use of atropine eye drops can be associated with medication and dosing errors and systemic side effects. To address these limitations of treatment, we developed a mucoadhesive topical oral gel formulation of atropine as an alternative
