Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy reveals variations in the milk metabolome associated with total and differential somatic cell count in dairy cows.

Udder health is a key determinant of milk quality, animal welfare, and economic sustainability in dairy production systems. This study evaluated the ability of proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR) to discriminate milk according to udder health status and to investigate the effect of udder health on the milk metabolomic profile. Individual milk samples (n = 410) were repeatedly collected from 62 lactating cows and classified as healthy, susceptible, mastitic, and chronic based on SCC and differential somatic cell count (DSCC) thresholds. A total of 33 milk metabolites were id

Omics-guided understanding of nonthermal plasma seed treatment: from surface modification to germination and stress resilience.

This review links plasma-induced seed-surface modification and redox signaling with emerging multi-omics responses associated with germination and stress resilience, while emphasizing that a unified causal sequence remains unproven. Nonthermal plasma (NTP) seed treatment has emerged as a promising chemical-free strategy for improving germination, seedling establishment, and stress resilience. Despite the expansion of plasma agriculture, reviews have largely focused on plasma engineering, individual physiological responses, or descriptive summaries of agronomic outcomes, leaving the mechanistic

Alloy-based metallic nanoparticles for enhanced solar cell performance: materials and device insights.

Alloy-based metallic nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted increasing attention as promising materials for improving solar cell (SC) performance because of their tunable optical, electrical, and catalytic properties, which can provide advantages over their monometallic counterparts. This review examines the application of alloy-based metallic NPs, including Au-Ag, Pt-Co, Ni-Cu, and Fe-Ni systems, in different SC technologies. Although alloy NPs have been explored in silicon, perovskite, organic, and dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), this review places greater emphasis on DSSCs due to the larger

Implementing polygenic risk-based breast cancer screening across European health systems: insights from the BRIGHT project.

INTRODUCTION: Polygenic risk scores (PRS) offer a novel means of stratifying breast cancer risk, with the potential to personalize screening protocols and measures, and thus improve early detection. However, their implementation in real-world settings remains poorly understood. This study, as part of the BRIGHT project, investigates how PRS-based breast cancer screening is being piloted, adapted, and resisted across five European countries, Estonia, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and France, drawing on a combination of implementation science and business model theory. METHODS: We employed a multipl

Beyond the germ: Rethinking implant-related infections as a host-microbiota-biomaterial ecosystem.

Implant-related infections remain one of the most challenging complications in modern medicine, often leading to implant failure, revision surgery, significant patient morbidity and high rate of patient mortality. Traditionally framed within the germ theory paradigm, their pathogenesis has been attributed primarily to microbial contamination and biofilm formation. However, growing evidence reveals a far more complex picture in which infection susceptibility emerges from the dynamic interplay between host biology, microbiota composition, biomaterial properties, and environmental influences . Implementing a RPM-enabled transitional care pathway for adults with poorly controlled diabetes: a quality improvement initiative.

BACKGROUND: Adults discharged from the hospital with poorly controlled diabetes face elevated readmission risk, yet health systems lack practical models for integrating remote glucose monitoring into post-discharge care. Existing approaches often exclude patients at the highest risk who have limited English proficiency, adverse social determinants of health or limited smartphone access. LOCAL PROBLEM: At a 292-bed community hospital in White Plains New York, patients discharged with haemoglobin A1c ≥8% showed higher rates of hospital utilisation. Local mortality data revealed disparities affe

Microbiome-metabolite signaling networks in gastrointestinal disease: systems biology, network rewiring, and precision therapeutics.

The gastrointestinal tract operates as a highly integrated, multi-layer signaling ecosystem in which microbial communities, metabolite flux, epithelial receptors, immune circuits, and neuroendocrine pathways form a coordinated regulatory network rather than isolated biological compartments. The Microbiome-Metabolite Signaling Network (MMSN) framework conceptualizes gastrointestinal homeostasis and disease as emergent properties of dynamic cross-layer interactions. This review explores the framework principally on inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome as representative gastroi

Technical Developments in Radiology: Enhancing Research Workflows with PACScrawler.

Efficiently identifying and retrieving imaging studies to create research cohorts is often hindered by the segregated storage of medical imaging data and radiological reports. To address this, we developed PACScrawler, an open-source tool designed to streamline cohort assembly by enabling efficient search and access to imaging studies across Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) and Radiology Information Systems (RIS). The system features a backend crawler module that regularly collects DICOM and RIS metadata and radiology reports from newly acquired studies and stores them in a l

Dual-output hybrid converter based on the modular universal dc-ac/dc converter.

With the increasing integration of renewable energy resources into modern electrical power systems, the development of distributed hybrid microgrids is becoming increasingly attractive because of their ability to operate in islanded mode and the coexistence of ac and dc buses. Power electronic converters, as critical technologies for these systems, increasingly require greater standardization and modularity. In this context, the modular universal converter topology emerged with the capability of operating as either a dc-dc or a dc-ac three-phase converter by featuring the same power stage with

Advancing Water and Dialysate Standards for High-Volume Hemodiafiltration in the United States: From Scientific Rationale to Clinical Implementation.

High-volume post-dilution hemodiafiltration (HVHDF), defined by a convection volume ≥23 L/session, is associated with improved survival and clinical outcomes compared with conventional high-flux hemodialysis. Because HVHDF requires infusion of large volumes of sterile substitution fluid, treatment safety depends on rigorous control of dialysis water and fluid purity. With expanding interest in the United States, guidance on quality standards and implementation is needed. We conducted a narrative review of current evidence and technical standards governing dialysis water, dialysate, and online-

The Relationship between Hemoglobin A1c and the Glucose Management Indicator and Glucose Metrics in Children and Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Using Automated Insulin Delivery Systems.

OBJECTIVE: Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) remains the standard biomarker for long-term glycemic control in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D), butis incapable of capturing short-term glucose variability and acute excursions. This limitation is especially relevant in children with T1D who use continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGMS) and automated insulin delivery (AID) systems. The objective of this study was to evaluate the temporal relationship between HbA1c and the glucose management indicator (GMI), and any further associations with CGMS-derived glycemic parameters over a 12 weeks in youth with T1D
