Effect of participatory ergonomics program on reducing ergonomic risk factors among the aging workers on ginger peelers in Wat Puranawas community, Thailand.

Iridocyclitis and the use of glucocorticoid medication have been widely studied as susceptibility factors for cataracts. However, the causal relationship between them remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between the development of iridocyclitis and the genetic liability of glucocorticoid medication use on the risk of senile cataracts occurrence by performing Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses. Instrumental variables (IVs) significantly associated with exposure factors (P < 5 × 10-8) were identified using published genome-wide association data f

Behavioral, neurodevelopmental profile, and epilepsy trajectory in two series of SLC6A1-NDD: A retrospective study with comprehensive assessment, and a participatory database study.

SLC6A1 (Solute Carrier Family 6 Member 1) variants are associated with SLC6A1-neurodevelopmental disorders (SLC6A1-NDD), which manifest as early-onset epilepsy, intellectual developmental disorder, and autism spectrum disorder. There have been over 300 reported cases so far. A retrospective analysis of 14 patients with de novo SLC6A1 variants was conducted to assess their developmental milestones, epilepsy progression, antiseizure medication, and, for some, a comprehensive neurodevelopmental evaluation. Data from 14 additional families were also collected using the GenIDA participatory databas

Left Ventricular Non-Compaction Cardiomyopathy: A Review of the Pathophysiology, Epidemiology, Diagnosis, Genetics, and Clinical Management.

Left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy (LVNC) is an uncommon myocardial phenotype characterized by prominent trabeculae and deep blood-filled recesses. The expanding use of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) has increased detection, yet uncertainty persists about whether LVNC is a distinct disease or a phenotype that overlaps with other cardiomyopathies. LVNC expression reflects the interplay among genotype, sex, ancestry, and hemodynamic load and thus serves as a model for precision cardiology. We conducted a narrative review of literature published between January 2000 and April 2025 i

Unraveling the pathogenic interplay between SARS-CoV-2 and polycystic ovary syndrome using bioinformatics and experimental validation.

The prevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) among polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is significantly higher than in the general population. However, the mechanisms underlying this remain obscure. This study aimed to explore the mechanisms by identifying the genetic signature of SARS-CoV-2 infection in PCOS. In the present study, a total of 27 common differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were selected for subsequent analyses. Functional analyses showed that immunity and hormone-related pathways collectively participated in the development and progression of PCO

Causal relationships between three plasma proteins and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, mediated by Epstein-Barr virus EA-D antibody levels: a mendelian randomization study.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a major global health concern, with its prevalence increasing steadily. While plasma proteins have been implicated in NAFLD, establishing causal relationships has been challenging due to confounding factors in observational studies. This study aims to explore the causal relationships between plasma proteins and NAFLD using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. We utilized genome-wide association study (GWAS) data from multiple sources to conduct MR analyses. Plasma protein data were obtained from the deCODE open database, and NAFLD data were source

Homozygous TNNI3 frameshift variant in a consanguineous family with lethal infantile dilated cardiomyopathy.

BACKGROUND: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is characterized by dilatation of the left ventricle, systolic dysfunction, and normal or reduced thickness of the left ventricular wall. It is a leading cause of heart failure and cardiac death at a young age. Cases with neonatal onset DCM were correlated with severe clinical presentation and poor prognosis. A monogenic molecular etiology accounts for nearly half of cases. FAMILY DESCRIPTION: Here, we report a family with three deceased offspring at the age of 1 year old. The autopsy of the first deceased infant revealed a DCM. The second infant prese

Mutations in SLC45A2 lead to loss of melanin in parrot feathers.

Bird plumage coloration is a complex and multifactorial process that involves both genetic and environmental factors. Diverse pigment groups contribute to plumage variation in different birds. In parrots, the predominant green color results from the combination of 2 different primary colors: yellow and blue. Psittacofulvin, a pigment uniquely found in parrots, is responsible for the yellow coloration, while blue is suggested to be the result of light scattering by feather nanostructures and melanin granules. So far, genetic control of melanin-mediated blue coloration has been elusive. In this

The ABCD and HBCD Studies: Longitudinal Studies to Inform Prevention Science.

Increasing rates of overdose among U.S. adolescents and young adults, along with rising rates of emotional distress in these groups, are renewing the urgency for developmentally targeted and personalized substance use and other mental health prevention interventions. Most prevention programs recognize the unique vulnerability of childhood and adolescence and target parents and youths, addressing modifiable environmental risk and protective factors that affect behavior during periods when the brain is most susceptible to change. Until recently, a scarcity of comprehensive studies has limited a

Two Novel Genetic Variants Involved in the Oxygen Sensing Pathway in JAK2-unmutated Erythrocytosis.

JAK2-unmutated erythrocytosis or non-polycythemia vera erythrocytosis is a rare condition comprising both acquired and hereditary forms. Although acquired erythrocytosis has been well-studied, hereditary erythrocytosis remains poorly studied. Genetic alterations associated with hereditary erythrocytosis include mutations in erythropoietin receptor and erythropoietin (EPO), altered oxygen affinity mutations, and variants associated with the oxygen-sensing pathway. We established a molecular diagnostic approach based on these genes and retrospectively evaluated. Peripheral blood from 56 erythroc
