Due to the frequency of this phenomenon and the often considerable distress caused to the affected person, competent advice, diagnosis and treatment of snoring in adults is of particular importance. The aim of this guideline is to promote high-quality medical care for patients affected by this problem. According to the three-level concept of the AWMF, it corresponds to an S1 guideline. Prior to any therapeutic intervention, relevant sleep medical history, clinical examination, as well as a mandatory objective diagnostic measure are performed. Snoring is only treated if the patient asks for it.

Kahlbaum was one of the most influencial psychiatrists of the 19th century. He paved the way for Kraepelin and inspired the development of 20th century clinical psychiatry. With his work he contributed to new ideas in general psychopathology and in psychiatric nosology. He described "clinical state-course-entities" and developed the concept of "exogenous reaction types", which would later be known as the "Bonhoeffer-paradigm". Kahlbaum was also the first to differentiate between centripetal, intracentral and centrifugal psychic functions, which was later transformed into the "psychic reflex ci

Nannizzia incurvata is a geophilic dermatophyte that is rarely detected in Germany. We report on a 17-year-old traveler returning from Indonesia in whom Nannizzia incurvata was isolated as the causative agent of tinea corporis. Targeted, local antimycotic therapy and clinical follow-up was recommended. This report shows the importance of a detailed travel history and targeted mycological diagnostic workup.

Kirner's deformity is a rare skeletal deformity first described in Germany in 1927. It is characterized by progressive palmar-radial curvature of the distal phalanx of the small finger. Here, we present the case of a 15-year-old boy with Kirner's deformity in both little fingers, who was treated with percutaneous corrective osteotomy. This was followed by a successful outcome after 36 months.

The significance of selected bacterial infections of felines in zoological gardens is discussed. Anthrax and malleus are in Germany of historical interest only, tuberculosis went down very strongly. Isolated cases of pseudotuberculosis must be expected in future. Infections with bacteria of the genera Chlamydia, Pasteurella and of the family Enterobacteriaceae are also considered. The significance of Clostridium perfringens in the so called tiger disease is discussed.

Accidental hypothermia in the elderly is a rather unknown clinical syndrome in Germany. Manifestations are those of a generalized disease without striking symptoms or signs. To assure the clinical diagnosis, a low graded thermometer is necessary. Treatment consists of slow and passive rewarming and of correction of the accompanying disturbances. As important as correct diagnosis and treatment are preventive efforts against exogenous and endogenous risk factors.

Psychiatrists and medical historians Werner Leibbrand (1896 - 1974) and Annemarie Wettley (1913 - 1996) are amongst the most striking figures in the field of history of medicine. Leibbrand was appointed director of the "Heil- und Pflegeanstalt" in Erlangen shortly after the war. Fuelled by his own experiences of suppression and persecution during the Nazi era he promised to unearth the crimes and atrocities which had happened under watch of the Nazi regime. He was joined by Annemarie Wettley, who worked as a physician at the hospital and had developed an increasing interest in the history of m
