Impact of dietary index for gut microbiota on muscle and bone health: A cross-sectional study.

Distortions in homeostasis of the gut microbiota may be correlated with or may even contribute to abnormalities in musculoskeletal system function. This study thus aims to examine the impact of dietary index for gut microbiota (DI-GM) on bone and muscle health. This study utilized data extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database. Dietary data was used to calculate DI-GM. Osteoporosis, bone mineral density (BMD), sarcopenia, muscle quality index (MQI) and fracture were selected as observational indicators in this study. The random forest algorithm filled in the …

Perspectives of UK Physiotherapists With Expertise in Rheumatology on the Barriers and Facilitators Influencing the Identification of Axial Spondyloarthritis by First Contact Practitioners in Primary Care: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) poses a significant diagnostic challenge to health care professionals, with opportunities for early recognition often being missed in primary care. With musculoskeletal First Contact Practitioners (FCPs) rapidly becoming common place in primary care settings, the question is raised as to whether FCPs are adequately considering axSpA as a potential diagnosis. Swift recognition and timely referral are the antecedents to early diagnosis and better outcomes for people with suspected axSpA; therefore, it is imperative that FCPs can readily identify this c

Is T-cell senescence associated with inflammatory arthritis and disease burden? A systematic review.

Musculoskeletal and rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), and psoriatic arthritis (PsA), are prevalent and are increasingly common worldwide. The aetiology of these diseases varies; some are linked to mechanical stress (e.g., osteoarthritis), while others, like RA and axSpA, are associated with autoimmune processes. Despite their different origins, these conditions share a common feature in elevated inflammatory profiles compared to healthy populations. In autoimmune diseases, immune cells-particularly T-cells-are chronically activated, and the

Multimorbidity profiles in patient population from Central China: a study based on electronic health records.

Comprehensive, life-course multimorbidity data derived from linked outpatient and inpatient electronic health records (EHRs) remain scarce globally. We analyzed integrated EHRs (2016-2023) from approximately 3.2 million individuals in Yichang, a prefecture-level city in Central China, to characterize disease co-occurrence during this observation window by identifying both the most frequent combinations and significant non-random associations across all ages. Multimorbidity was defined as the presence of ≥ 2 distinct lifetime conditions recorded for an individual. We identified the 50 most comm

A novel scheme for speed variation of a robotic cane to improve step length symmetry during overground walking.

Gait symmetry is a vital index for improving and evaluating the walking ability of patients with hemiplegia. Asymmetric gait disturbs walking balance and increases unnecessary energy consumption, causing serious damage to the musculoskeletal system. The restoration of step length symmetry (SLS) is one of the gait parameters targeted for rehabilitation and can be easily accessed and adjusted in the clinic. Therefore, we proposed a novel scheme based on a speed variation method (SVM) using a robotic haptic cane (HC) to improve SLS on overground walking. To evaluate the proposed method and check …
