Correlates of physical activity enjoyment in children and adolescents for a new perspective on the treatment of overweight: A systematic literature review.

The purpose of this systematic literature review was to systematically compile the state of knowledge on correlates of physical activity enjoyment in children and adolescents to influence the perspective of future physical activity promotion approaches especially for children and adolescents affected by overweight or obesity. The electronic database search was executed in the five databases PubMed, PsychINFO, SPORTDiscus, Web of Science, and BISp-SURF, from inception to December 6, 2021. A semi-quantitative method was used for summarizing the resulted correlates. For final analysis, 85 studies

The role of community health advisors' cancer history in implementation and efficacy of a cancer control intervention.

Community health advisors (CHAs) play a key role in promoting health in medically underserved communities, including in addressing cancer disparities. There is a need to expand the research on what characteristics make for an effective CHA. We examined the relationship between CHA personal and family history of cancer, and implementation and efficacy outcomes in a cancer control intervention trial. Twenty-eight trained CHAs implemented a series of three cancer educational group workshops for N = 375 workshop participants across 14 churches. Implementation was operationalized as participant att

Critiquing representations of intellectual disability in occupation-based literature.

BACKGROUND: Within and beyond occupation-based scholarship, concerns abound regarding the pervasiveness of discourses that promote a negative, deficit-based view of intellectual disability and associated consequences for disabled people's lives. Such representations risk reducing the complexities of human doing and being and can limit the occupational possibilities of this group. Yet, there is a lack of critically reflexive research exploring how disability is discursively constructed in occupation-based literature. AIMS/OBJECTIVES: This paper critically analyses representations of intellectu

Effects of low-dose intravenous heparin therapy in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: a randomized controlled clinical trial protocol.

BACKGROUND: Heparin anticoagulation therapy is a widely used method to prevent cerebral vasospasm (CV) and venous thrombosis in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by ruptured cerebral aneurysms. Subcutaneous heparin injection is considered safe and effective, whereas continuous intravenous heparin infusion is still being debated due to the risk of bleeding. Although most retrospective studies have confirmed the safety and effectiveness of unfractionated heparin (UFH) after aneurysm embolization therapy and its ability to reduce CV, there is still no randomized clinical trial comparin

Exploring What Influences Heterosexual College Men and the Practice of Safe Sex: The Power of Stigma and Community.

The college student population is among the highest risk group for contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV. Safe sex practices, which are intended to mitigate risks associated with sexually transmitted infections, are often negated in the population of heterosexual college students. Historically, research on safe sex practices has shown that the burden of behavior change and the focus on educational efforts historically fall onto the female population. There is little published on how safe sex education for males impacts attitudes and behaviors

Breathing Practices for Stress and Anxiety Reduction: Conceptual Framework of Implementation Guidelines Based on a Systematic Review of the Published Literature.

Anxiety and stress plague populations worldwide. Voluntary regulated breathing practices offer a tool to address this epidemic. We examined peer-reviewed published literature to understand effective approaches to and implementation of these practices. PubMed and ScienceDirect were searched to identify clinical trials evaluating isolated breathing-based interventions with psychometric stress/anxiety outcomes. Two independent reviewers conducted all screening and data extraction. Of 2904 unique articles, 731 abstracts, and 181 full texts screened, 58 met the inclusion criteria. Fifty-four of the

How far is the goal of applying β-amyloid in cerebrospinal fluid for clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease with standardization of measurements?

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) β-amyloid (Aβ) is important for early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the cohort distributions and cut-off values have large variation across different analytical assays, kits, and laboratories. In this review, we summarize the cut-off values and diagnostic performance for CSF Aβ1-42 and Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40, and explore the important effect factors. Based on the Alzheimer's Association external quality control program (AAQC program), the peer group coefficient of variation of manual ELISA assays for CSF Aβ1-42 was unsatisfied (>20%). Fully automated platform…

The Craniofacial Collaboration UK: Developmental Outcomes in 3-Year-Old Children With Metopic Synostosis.

The Craniofacial Collaboration UK (CC-UK) has been established across the 4 highly specialized craniofacial centers in the UK since 2015. This joint collective aims to address the current limitations within developmental craniofacial research, using robust clinical data from a homogenous sample of children. This paper presents the third wave of findings from the CC-UK, with consideration to developmental and behavioral parent-report measures. Whilst previous data for sagittal synostosis have been presented, this article summarizes the analysis of these outcomes for children with metopic synost

Prevention of childhood unintentional injuries in low- and middle-income countries: A systematic review.

Injuries are a leading cause of death and disability among children. Numerous injury prevention strategies have been successful in high-income countries, but the majority of unintentional injuries happen to children living in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This project aims to delineate the childhood injury prevention initiatives in LMICs. For inclusion, peer-reviewed articles needed to address unintentional injury, include children <18, assess a prevention-related intervention, contain a control group, and be published after 1988. Two pairs of reviewers evaluated articles independe

Healthy properties of green and white teas: an update.

Green tea has been consumed for centuries in Japan, China and Morocco. White tea, which is considered a variety of green tea, is mostly consumed in China and is very appreciated for its flavor. Currently the consumption of both types of tea has been extended to the western countries even as a functional ingredient. A group of polyphenols called catechins stands out among their bioactive components, the most abundant being the (-) epigallocatechin gallate, with high antioxidant power. Teas also contain other phenolic compounds such as gallic, caffeic, chlorogenic or cinnamic acids, quercetin an
