Trajectories of depressive symptoms across pregnancy and the extended postpartum period and future cardiovascular health.

BACKGROUND: Individuals diagnosed with depression during pregnancy are more likely to develop cardiovascular disease (CVD) later in life. However, it remains unclear whether subclinical depressive symptoms or symptom trajectories across time are associated with indicators of cardiovascular health (CVH). Therefore, the present study evaluated the relationship between longitudinal depressive symptom trajectories beginning in pregnancy and future CVH. METHODS: This secondary analysis of the multisite prospective nuMoM2b-Heart Health Study and included participants with complete longitudinal data

Temperature Dominates Light in Regulating Lycopene During a Critical Period in Postharvest Tomato Fruit.

Fruit coloration is a key determinant of tomato quality, yet how light and temperature interact to regulate pigmentation during ripening remains unclear. Using a semi-in-fruit experimental system, we demonstrate that while high light accelerates chlorophyll degradation and lycopene accumulation at 25 °C, supra-optimal temperature (40 °C) completely abolishes lycopene biosynthesis irrespective of light conditions, primarily through transcriptional suppression of SlPSY1 and SlGGPS2. Elevated postharvest temperatures (≥30 °C) not only change the carotenoid composition but also reduce the antioxid

Impact of holiday periods on glioblastoma surgery: a Dutch nationwide population-based cohort study.

Ensuring high-quality surgical care is challenging during holiday periods due to potential reduction of capacity as well as availability of specialised personnel. Recently, quality of care for patients with gastric cancer in the Netherlands was found to be lower during the holiday periods. The effect of the holiday periods on quality of care on brain cancer, specifically glioblastoma surgery in the Netherlands, has not been investigated. Therefore, this study aimed to examine whether surgery during holiday periods is associated with differences in survival, early mortality, extent of resection

Women's perceptions of urinary incontinence during the postpartum period: systematic review of qualitative evidence.

BACKGROUND: Urinary incontinence is a common condition in the postpartum period, although most women do not seek help because they believe that their problems resolve spontaneously. Urinary incontinence has been associated with feelings of distress, shame, anxiety, depression, and social isolation. This systematic review of qualitative studies aimed to enhance the knowledge of postpartum women's perceptions of urinary incontinence, particularly their feelings and problems in their daily lives. METHODS: This qualitative evidence review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42024596647) and conducted i

Periodic Alkali Metal Modulation of Carbon Nitride for Volcano-Type Photocatalytic H2O2 Production.

Alkali metal ions (Li+, Na+, K+, Rb+, Cs+) are systematically doped into graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4, CN) to investigate the periodic regulation of photocatalytic H2O2 production. Using ethanol as a sacrificial agent under visible-light irradiation, the H2O2 generation rate exhibits a pronounced volcano-type trend along the Li-Na-K-Rb-Cs series, with K+-doped CN achieving the highest activity of 1795 µmol g-1 h-1, representing a 2.1-fold enhancement over pristine CN. Mechanistic studies reveal that alkali metal ions incorporation modulates the electronic structure of CN through orbital in

Considerations for imaging of children pre-operatively- and in the early post-operative period of renal transplantation.

Renal transplantation is the preferred treatment for children with end-stage renal failure, offering superior survival, growth, and quality of life compared with long-term dialysis. Up to 40% of paediatric renal transplants are performed for congenital abnormalities of the kidneys and urinary tract (CAKUT), contrasting with adult causes such as diabetes and hypertension. Paediatric transplantation presents unique challenges due to potential donor-recipient size variation, diverse underlying pathologies, and limited availability of standardized clinical and imaging protocols. This educational r

Sunlight-driven activation of periodate by excited triplet humic acid for efficient microcontaminant abatement.

Humic acid (HA) may inhibit the degradation of contaminants by quenching reactive species in some traditional advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). However, our study found that HA can remarkably enhance the degradation of contaminants by the sunlight-activated periodate (PI) system in practical applications. Herein, a HA-boosted sunlight-activated PI system for contaminant degradation was systematically investigated. The results showed that 2 mgC/L HA increased the degradation efficiency of naproxen (NAP) by about 2.4-fold in the sunlight/PI system. Increased HA or PI concentration enhanced NA

DPPAT: Dual-Level Periodic Pattern-Aware Transformer for Heart Sound Murmur Identification.

Developing heart sound classification algorithms for murmur identification is critical for early screening of heart diseases. However, identifying murmurs in long-duration heart sound signals can be challenging due to their weak features and interference from noise. Considering the periodic patterns of heart sounds and murmurs, periodic priors can be introduced to enhance murmur identification, an approach that remains underutilized in current methods. In this study, we propose a novel Dual-level Periodic Pattern-Aware Transformer (DPPAT) to implicitly leverage the periodic priors of heart sou

Blood pressure trajectories during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum period: a multicenter study in Japan.

In this study, we characterized the physiological blood pressure (BP) trajectories from an estimated pre-pregnancy period through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum among low-risk, normotensive women. This retrospective multicenter observational study was conducted at 12 primary obstetric care facilities in Japan and included 14,240 low-risk, normotensive women with term singleton deliveries between 2011 and 2018. Longitudinal outpatient BP trajectories during pregnancy and the postpartum period were modeled using linear mixed-effects models with restricted cubic splines. The pre-pregnancy BP wa

Motion sickness induced by periodic accelerations: Effects of motion axis, frequency, and acceleration magnitude.

BackgroundCarsickness is a potential barrier to the acceptance of automated driving as it turns drivers into passengers, thus making them more susceptible to motion sickness. However, most of our current knowledge of how vehicle motion causes motion sickness comes from seasickness studies, using vertical motion only. Some more recent studies have investigated the relationship between horizontal accelerations and motion sickness, but with inconsistent methodology and sometimes conflicting results.ObjectiveTo quantify the effects of acceleration frequency and magnitude for periodic accelerations

Blood Glucose Monitoring in the Neonatal Period: A Study on Evaluation Using the RAPIDPoint 500/500e.

BACKGROUND: Rapid glucose assessment is essential in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) for early detection of hypoglycemia. We evaluated the agreement between neonatal blood glucose levels measured using bedside blood gas analyzers (GasBS) and those measured in the central laboratory (LabBS), and identified factors associated with clinically significant discrepancies. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 5436 paired specimens from 2105 infants admitted to the NICU. For the primary agreement analyses, 5375 specimens with GasBS > 20 mg/dL were included. Agreement between GasBS and LabBS was

Heart Failure Occurring in the Perinatal Period: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.

Heart failure in the perinatal period remains ambiguous in definition and management despite its recognition as a unique disease state. The true incidence and prevalence of heart failure or left ventricular systolic dysfunction during pregnancy and the postpartum period are unknown, although a prevalence as high as 1% to 2% has been reported in the general adult US population. Assessment of heart failure can be challenging in the pregnant or postpartum state, during which symptoms affecting physical function (eg, dyspnea, exercise intolerance, fatigue, and lower-extremity edema) are prevalent

Consensus roadmap on periodic leg movements during sleep: outcomes of the international PLMS taskforce.

Periodic leg movements during sleep (PLMS) are a frequently observed motor phenomenon in polysomnography, yet their biological meaning and clinical relevance are debated. Further, how these should be assessed and tabulated for optimal evaluation is uncertain. To address these gaps, an international, multidisciplinary taskforce convened a series of online meetings followed by an in person taskforce workshop held in Troina, Italy, on November 14-15, 2025, where agreement was reached through iterative discussion (qualitative; no Delphi or predefined voting thresholds). This taskforce roadmap summ
