METHODS: This was a prospective, pretest and posttest interventional study. Student attitudes were measured through: (a) the attitudes toward homelessness inventory and (b) thematic analysis of a guided reflection on the experience. RESULTS: Mean posttest total scores (mean = 50.06; standard deviation = 7.004) were sign

Rasch analysis was used to evaluate test properties across SMA types. RESULTS: Unidimensional content for each domain was confirmed. The PEDI-CAT was most informative for type III SMA, with ability levels di

Measuring stigma among health care and social service providers: The HIV/AIDS Provider Stigma Inventory.

Initial validation of the HIV/AIDS Provider Stigma Inventory (HAPSI), piloted on a sample of 174 nursing students, supported the psychometric qualities of a suite of measures capturing tendencies to stigmatize and discriminate against people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA). Derived from social psychology and mindfulness theories, separate scales addressing awareness, acceptance, and action were designed to include notions of labeling, stereotyping, outgrouping, and discriminating. These were enhanced to capture differences associated with personal characteristics of PLHA that trigger secondary sti

Psychosocial adaptation to amputation: the role of sociodemographic variables, disability-related factors and coping strategies.

This study examined the roles of sociodemographic variables, disability-related factors, and coping strategies as predictors of the psychosocial adaptation of 61 persons with amputations. Psychosocial adaptation was conceptualized as a multifaceted outcome criterion and was measured by seven scales from the Reactions to Impairment and Disability Inventory (RIDI) and the Acceptance of Disability (AD) scale. A series of multiple regression analyses indicated that both a set of sociodemographic variables and disability-related factors (age, duration of amputation, type of amputation) and a set of

Classroom behavior and family climate in students with learning disabilities and hyperactive behavior.

The present study aimed to identify subtypes of the learning disabilities (LD) syndrome by examining classroom behavior and family climate among four groups of Israeli students ranging in age from 7 to 10 years: 22 students with LD and hyperactive behavior (HB), 22 nonhyperactive students with LD, 20 nondisabled students with HB, and 20 nondisabled nonhyperactive students. Schaefer's Classroom Behavior Inventory and Moos's Family Environmental Scale were administered to teachers and mothers, respectively. The Essential Network (TEN): Protocol for an Implementation Study of a Digital-First Mental Health Solution for Australian Health Care Workers During COVID-19.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has placed health care workers (HCWs) under severe stress, compounded by barriers to seeking mental health support among HCWs. The Essential Network (TEN) is a blend of digital and person-to-person (blended care) mental health support services for HCWs, funded by the Australian Federal Department of Health as part of their national COVID-19 response strategy. TEN is designed as both a preventative measure and treatment for common mental health problems faced by HCWs. New blended services need to demonstrate improvements in mental health symptoms and test accep

Barriers and facilitators to resuming meaningful daily activities among critical illness survivors in the UK: a qualitative content analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To identify critical illness survivors' perceived barriers and facilitators to resuming performance of meaningful activities when transitioning from hospital to home. DESIGN: Secondary content analysis of semistructured interviews about patients' experiences of intensive care (primary analysis disseminated on the patient-facing website www.healthtalk.org). Two coders characterised patient-perceived barriers and facilitators to resuming meaningful activities. To facilitate clinical application, we mapped the codes onto the Person-Task-Environment model of performance, a patient-cent

The association between childhood maltreatment and eating disorder psychopathology: A mixed-model investigation.

BACKGROUND: Childhood maltreatment (CM) is recognized as a non-specific risk factor for Eating Disorders (EDs), but the mechanisms explaining this association have been insufficiently assessed. We aim to explore the psychological pathways through which CM experiences promote ED core symptoms. METHODS: Two-hundred-twenty-eight people with EDs, 94 with anorexia nervosa restricting (ANR) type and 134 with binge-purging (BP) symptoms (including 23 with AN purging type and 111 with bulimia nervosa), completed the Eating Disorder Inventory-2, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Childhood Trau

Differences in sleep functioning between individuals with seasonal affective disorder and major depressive disorder in Finland.

BACKGROUND: Sleep problems are commonly reported in seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the specific characteristics of sleep difficulties differ. Frequent sleep problems in MDD are insomnia and night awakenings, whereas SAD patients complain of hypersomnia and daytime sleepiness. No previous studies have reported differences in sleep functioning between these two disorders. METHODS: We interviewed 4554 subjects from the Health 2011 survey and included 4153 individuals in this study. We selected participants who fulfilled the criteria for SAD (n = 2

Early Adolescents' Unique Perspectives of Maternal and Paternal Rejection: Examining Their Across-Dyad Generalizability and Relations with Adjustment 1 Year Later.

Parental rejection is linked to deep and enduring adjustment problems during adolescence. This study aims to further clarify this relation by demonstrating what has long been posited by parental acceptance/rejection theory but never validated empirically-namely that adolescents' unique or subjective experience of parental rejection independently informs their future adjustment. Among a longitudinal, multi-informant sample of 161 families (early adolescents were 47 % female and 40 % European American) this study utilized a multitrait-multimethod confirmatory factor analysis to isolate for each

Anger profiles in social anxiety disorder.

Individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD) exhibit elevated levels of anger and anger suppression, which are both associated with increased depression, diminished quality of life, and poorer treatment outcomes. However, little is known about how anger experiences differ among individuals with SAD and whether any heterogeneity might relate to negative outcomes. This investigation sought to empirically define anger profiles among 136 treatment-seeking individuals with SAD and to assess their association with distress and impairment. A latent class analysis was conducted utilizing the trait s

Validity and reliability of the Internalized Stigma of Smoking Inventory: An exploration of shame, isolation, and discrimination in smokers with mental health diagnoses.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: De-normalization of smoking as a public health strategy may create shame and isolation in vulnerable groups unable to quit. To examine the nature and impact of smoking stigma, we developed the Internalized Stigma of Smoking Inventory (ISSI), tested its validity and reliability, and explored factors that may contribute to smoking stigma. METHODS: We evaluated the ISSI in a sample of smokers with mental health diagnoses (N = 956), using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and assessed construct validity. RESULTS: Results reduced the ISSI to eight items with

The objectives of the study were to analyze the psychometric properties, factor structure and internal consistency of the Spanish version of the Thought-Shape Fusion Questionnaire (TSF-Q), as well as to determine its validity by evaluating the relationship of the TSF-Q to different instruments. Two groups were studied: one comprising 146 patients with a diagnosis of anorexia (n = 82), bulimia (n = 33) or unspecified eating disorder (n = 31), and another group of 115 undergraduates with no history of psychological disorder. All participants completed the TSF-Q, TAF-Q, EDI-2, STAI, BDI and SCL-9
