Effects of gochujang formulations on menopausal symptoms and gut microbiota in postmenopausal women: an 8-week randomized, double-blind trial.

INTRODUCTION: Menopause-associated symptoms impair quality of life, and postmenopausal women increasingly seek safe, non-hormonal, diet-based interventions. Gochujang, a traditional Korean fermented food rich in isoflavone aglycones and capsaicinoids, has biological activities relevant to menopausal health but has never been tested in a randomized trial. We compared three distinct Gochujang formulations. METHODS: In this 8-week, randomized, double-blind, three-arm trial, two Gochujang formulations differing in microbial composition (high-microorganism [HTG], low-microorganism [LTG]) were comp

Curcuminoid supplementation for vasomotor symptoms in postmenopausal women: a pilot, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled proof-of-concept trial.

BACKGROUND: Vasomotor symptoms are common during menopause and can impair quality of life. Although hormone therapy is effective, concerns about risks and adverse effects contribute to limited utilization, highlighting the need for non-hormonal options. Curcuminoids have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and may improve vasomotor symptoms. METHODS: This 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot proof-of-concept trial evaluated the preliminary efficacy of curcuminoids (1000 mg/day) versus placebo in healthy postmenopausal women (41–65 years; n = 40). The prespecifie

Efficacy of Combining Kegel Exercises with EMS-Based Pelvic Floor Muscle Electrostimulation in Postmenopausal Women with Involuntary Urinary Leakage.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a frequent condition in postmenopausal women and is associated with a substantial negative impact on quality of life. Conservative management can include pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) and high-intensity focused electromagnetic stimulation (HIFEM); however, data regarding the potential benefit of combining these modalities remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate whether the addition of a structured Kegel exercise program to EMSELLA-based electromagnetic stimulation is associated with enhanced clinical outcomes in postmenopausal wome

[Results of the meeting of the Interdisciplinary Expert Council on an integrated approach to the management of peri- and postmenopausal women with psycho-emotional and neurological disorders].

The reduction in sex hormone levels during the menopausal period substantially impacts patients' quality of life and serves as a significant risk factor for psycho-emotional disorders. Current clinical guidelines from both Russian and international sources recognize menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) as the primary method for addressing menopausal disorders. However, selecting dosage forms tailored to the patient's comorbidities and overall health status is essential. In 2026, the Russian Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Interdisciplinary Association of Specialists in Healthy

Metabolic impact of exercise timing: Myonectin dynamics in overweight and obese postmenopausal women following high-intensity interval training.

BACKGROUND: Myonectin is a myokine that regulates lipid metabolism, and levels are often reduced in obesity and insulin resistance. This study examined whether the timing of exercise influences myonectin and metabolic responses to high-intensity interval training in obese postmenopausal women. METHODS: Fifty-eight sedentary postmenopausal women (body mass index 28-35 kg/m2) were randomized to high-intensity interval training or a control condition. The exercise group completed two counterbalanced cycling sessions (morning 08:00 h, evening 18:00 h). Blood samples were collected at baseline, im

Beyond Blood Pressure: Cardiac Structural and Functional Abnormalities in Hypertensive Postmenopausal Women with Mild-to-Moderate Chronic Kidney Disease.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, even at early stages. Postmenopausal women represent a particularly vulnerable population due to estrogen deficiency, which promotes adverse cardiovascular remodeling. However, data specifically characterizing the cardiac phenotype of hypertensive postmenopausal women with mild-to-moderate CKD remain limited. Methods: We conducted a prospective observational cohort study including 413 hypertensive postmenopausal women consecutively referred to a tertiary center between 2019 and 2022. P

Social determinants of vulnerability to nitrogen oxide- and sulfur dioxide-related bone damage among postmenopausal women in the United States.

BACKGROUND: Studying social determinants of health (SDOH) in air pollutant-related bone loss among aging women may help identify bone health disparities, design preventive strategies, and inform policy. Prolonged exposure to air pollution is associated with decreased bone mineral density (BMD) and increased fracture risk in later life. However, the extent to which socioeconomic status (SES) contributes to pollution-related bone damage remains unclear. METHODS: We estimated the extent to which social determinants of health (SDOH) modify the associations of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur diox

A rare incidental finding of an occult ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor presenting with hyperestrogenism in a postmenopausal woman: Diagnostic challenges.

OBJECTIVE: Ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor (SLCT) is an exceptionally rare subtype of ovarian sex cord-stromal tumor, comprising less than 0.5% of ovarian neoplasms. While SLCT typically manifests in reproductive-age women, occurring in fewer than 10% of cases either prior to menarche or postmenopausally, it often presents with androgen secretion, resulting in virilization. However, occult lesions associated with hyperestrogenism in postmenopausal women are infrequent and may be easily overlooked. CASE REPORT: We present a rare case of SLCT in a 60-year-old postmenopausal woman who experien

Causal Effects of Circulating Inflammatory Proteins on Postmenopausal Atrophic Vaginitis in European Populations: A Mendelian Randomization Study with Transcriptomic Validation.

BACKGROUND: Postmenopausal atrophic vaginitis (PAV) is a prevalent and undertreated condition driven primarily by estrogen deficiency. Whether circulating inflammatory proteins causally contribute to PAV pathogenesis remains unknown. METHODS: Genetic instruments for 91 inflammatory proteins were derived from large-scale proteogenomic GWAS of European ancestry individuals. PAV outcome data were obtained from the FinnGen Consortium Release 12. Primary causal estimates were obtained using the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method, complemented by MR-Egger, weighted median, and weighted mode ana

Body Composition Attenuates the Association Between Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D and Bone Mineral Density in Early Postmenopausal Women.

Background/Objectives: Vitamin D plays a central role in calcium and bone homeostasis; however, evidence linking serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D ( … re protective against low BMD, while the association with 25(OH)D was modest. Conclusions: In early postmenopause, the association between serum 25(OH)D and BMD is modest and largely attenuated after accounting for body composition. Body weight and lean mass appear to be stronger determinants of bone outcomes than vitamin D status.

Femoral bone mineral density and mortality risk in postmenopausal women: a National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey cohort study.

OBJECTIVE: Osteoporosis is highly prevalent among postmenopausal women. While previous studies have primarily focused on the relationship between bone mineral density (BMD) and fracture risk, the prognostic value of BMD with regard to mortality remains unclear. METHODS: A total of 2,977 postmenopausal women from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005-2018) were included in this study. BMD at four femoral sites was assessed using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. The associations between BMD, osteoporotic fractures, and mortality were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier curves, re
