Red blood cells (RBCs) from different mammalian species were investigated for the presence of diamide-induced oxidative activation of K-Cl cotransport reported to be present in sheep but absent in human RBCs. K efflux was measured in RBCs from human with hemoglobin (Hb) A or S, glucose-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) and a cytoskeletal deficiency, and from rat, mouse and rabbit. The effects of intravenous ethanol and ethanol plus furosemide on pancreatic capillary blood flow (PCBF) were investigated using a laser-Doppler flowmeter. Forty Sprague-Dawley male rats were divided into 4 groups: (1) control, (2) 80% ethanol, (3) 80% ethanol plus furosemide, and (4) furosemide. In airway epithelia, adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) stimulates Cl- secretion by activating apical membrane Cl- channels and basolateral membrane K+ channels. The relation between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum osmolality was studied in 16 patients with hyperosmolar hypernatraemic dehydration before treatment.
