The prevalence of porcine endogenous retrovirus (PERV) proviral DNA among various pig breeds raised in Japan was investigated by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Moreover, potential infection of PERV was investigated by PCR and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in experimentally induced diabetic dogs (n=5) implanted with the diffusion chamber type bio-artificial endocrine pancreas (Bio-AEP) containing porcine pancreatic endocrine (PE) cells. Artocarpus nobilis Thwaites (Moraceae), endemic to Sri Lanka and classified as Vulnerable, was subjected to complete chloroplast genome sequencing and analysis. The 161,196-bp long genome had a GC content of 36% and comprised a large single-copy region of 89,878 bp, a short single-copy region of 19,982 bp, and two inverted repeats of 25,668 bp each. It contained 131 genes, including 86 protein-coding, eight rRNA, and 37 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed A. nobilis is closely related to A. heterophyllus and A. integer. These genomic data support future conservation and breeding studies.

A 19-year-old woman presented with low back pain and dyspnea that had begun approximately 3 months earlier, with low back pain progressively worsening since onset. The patient has no significant medical history or recurrent respiratory conditions. Diagnostic imaging is one of the most important tools in the breeding soundness evaluation of dogs and cats with reproduction problems. In recent years several imaging techniques have been developed, trying to aid the diagnosis and to differentiate between abnormal findings. This review presents the current knowledge on the imaging of normal and abnormal testes, spermatic cord, excurrent duct system, scrotum, accessory sex glands, penis and muscles for protrusion, erection and ejaculation of the dog and of cat. Two American Paint Horses, a 3-year-old nulliparous mare and a 7-year-old primiparous mare, presented for recent infertility and a pre-breeding examination, respectively. Examination of the internal reproductive tract of both mares using transrectal palpation and ultrasonography revealed the presence of the cervix, uterine body, left uterine horn and bilateral ovaries. The right uterine horn could neither be palpated nor imaged.
