Antisense oligonucleotides are recognized to be very efficient tools for the inhibition of gene expression in a sequence specific way. The phylogenetic relationships of all seven known species of Cecidophyopsis mites (Acari: Eriophyidae) with Ribes hosts have been inferred from ribosomal DNA sequences. Expansions of the triplet repeat, GAA/TTC, inside the first intron of the frataxin gene causes Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA). OBJECTIVE: Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) in systemic onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SoJIA) is considered to be an acquired form of familial haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (fHLH). FHLH is an autosomal recessive disorder, characterized by diminished NK cell function and caused by mutations in the perforin gene (PRF1) in 20-50% of patients. Interestingly, SoJIA patients display decreased levels of perforin in NK cells and diminished NK cell function as well. Studies on HLA antigens were conducted in several patient populations with the following findings: (a) All 135 Japanese narcoleptic patients, eight of whom were considered to have "symptomatic" narcolepsy, were found to be HLA-DR2 and HLA-DQw1 positive.
