In this clinical study, the role of enfenamic acid (Tromaril), a new anti-inflammatory and nonsteroidal drug, on various eye diseases such as trauma, on inflammatory diseases such as uveitis, and after cataract surgery was evaluated. The drug was administered to 30 patients (group A) while 29 patients (group B) were given a placebo. Diazepam 5 mg, promethazine 25 mg, propiomazine 25 mg, and placebo as sleeping aids were studied in 40 elderly inpatients. The drugs were administered in a random order, double-blind, on 21 nights. Nineteen patients with Raynaud's phenomenon in conjunction with progressive systemic sclerosis were given either prazosin hydrochloride (1 mg orally three times a day) or a placebo for eight weeks, after which the treatment procedure was reversed for four weeks. The effect of a single oral dose of propranolol (120 mg) on essential tremor was investigated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 26 patients. Hand tremor was recorded by means of accelerometers, and its frequency and amplitude calculated by using spectrum analysis. A randomized double-blind study was performed in forty patients with severe psoriasis. Etretinate, in contrast to placebo, clearly reduced the psoriatic area and severity index score, and this difference was statistically significant from week 2. The results in psoriasis vulgaris were satisfactory in only three of ten patients; however moderate improvement was noticed in four of ten patients. This randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study was undertaken in a series of 179 patients to determine whether phenytoin administered soon after head injury lessens the incidence of late posttraumatic epilepsy. Preliminary results on the disposition of meptazinol in the neonate are reviewed. Meptazinol has a half-life of 3.4 hours compared with 22.7 hours for pethidine. We performed a double-blind controlled crossover trial of perhexiline maleate versus identical placebo in daily doses of 100-400 mg in 20 male patients who were severely limited with angina pectoris despite therapy with beta-adrenoreceptor blockers. In a randomised, double-blind, controlled trial, 40 patients with zoster of short duration (rash present for less than three days) were given either 10 mg/kg acyclovir (20) or placebo (20) intravenously three times daily for five days.
