Spatial autophagy failure as a pharmacodynamic endpoint for autophagy-targeted dermatological interventions.

Autophagy-modulating dermatological interventions include topical, intralesional and systemic therapies, defined bioactive molecules and nutraceutical candidates. Their effects are commonly evaluated using tissue-averaged LC3-II, p62/SQSTM1 and canonical pathway markers. Although these measures support assessment of autophagy pathway engagement, they may miss spatially restricted pharmacodynamic non-response and cannot determine whether persistent local dysfunction reflects inadequate exposure or biology-limited non-response. Here we propose spatial autophagy failure (SAF) as a spatial pharmac

Bibliometric analysis of cognitive impairment secondary to chronic kidney disease.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive impairment (CI) is a common complication in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, affecting 10% to 50% of individuals depending on disease stage. Despite its clinical significance, the molecular mechanisms remain unclear, and effective interventions are lacking. This bibliometric analysis aimed to comprehensively map the research landscape of CI secondary to CKD from 1995 to 2024, identifying trends, key contributors, and evolving foci. METHODS: A total of 1783 English original articles and reviews were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric ana

A lightweight ResNet50V2-ECA model for renal cell carcinoma grading: efficiency, calibration, and state-of-the-art performance.

Accurate International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP)-grade classification of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is challenging due to subtle histopathological variations and the limitations of manual review. Existing deep learning models often rely on complex attention mechanisms that increase computational cost and hinder deployment. This study introduces a lightweight ResNet50V2-ECA framework that adds a single Efficient Channel Attention block after the final convolutional layer, enhancing channel-wise discrimination with minimal overhead (0.25 M parameters, 3.1 GFLOPs). Placing a single E

To assess the caries progression in molar incisor hypomineralization patients without treatment versus prior treatment with silver diamine fluoride/dentin bonding agent: A 24-month retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Children with molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) frequently experience high caries burden. Although preventive interventions such as silver diamine fluoride (SDF) and other agents are increasingly used, the natural progression of untreated MIH-related caries remains poorly documented, limiting policy-relevant evaluation of proven benefits in the long term. OBJECTIVE: To compare the 2-year caries progression in MIH-affected posterior teeth that were untreated versus those previously treated with SDF or universal bonding agents (UBAs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The retrospective c

Predicting Daily Cardiovascular Emergencies Using Weather and Air Quality Data: A 23-Year Machine-Learning Analysis in Taiwan.

Short-term variability in weather and air quality is known to influence cardiovascular emergencies, yet its day-to-day predictive value at the population level remains insufficiently understood. Using 23 years of nationwide data from Taiwan (2000-2022), we evaluated how weather and air quality conditions shape daily cardiovascular disease (CVD) emergency visits across geographic regions. We first applied unsupervised learning methods, including UMAP and K-means clustering, to 184 environmental features to identify data-driven environmental regimes and examine the distribution of high-risk CVD

Altered Functional Coherence of the Right Anterior Insula in Men With Nonorganic Erectile Dysfunction: A Resting-State fMRI Study.

BACKGROUND: Nonorganic erectile dysfunction (nonorganic ED) is a common subtype of ED characterized by impaired erectile function in the absence of identifiable organic causes. Although ED is increasingly recognized as a multidimensional condition involving interacting biological, psychological, relational, and sociocultural factors, how these influences are integrated within central neural systems in nonorganic ED remains incompletely understood. Objective neurobiological markers are therefore still lacking. OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether patients with nonorganic ED exhibit abnormalities

Next-generation forensic 3D surface documentation with projection-assisted digital spray multicamera photogrammetry and 3D gaussian splatting.

Accurate injury documentation is essential in forensic medicine, however conventional two-dimensional imaging methods are limited in their ability to capture spatial morphology and enable retrospective three-dimensional (3D) reassessment. Although multicamera photogrammetry has significantly advanced forensic surface documentation, challenges remain when imaging with low texture, homogeneous coloration, or reflective properties. This study presents an integrated workflow combining multicamera photogrammetry with projection-assisted acquisition using a digital spray mode to improve surface reco

An in-home engagement and usability study of GeRI: an open-source platform for remote symptom assessment and wearable activity monitoring in men with prostate cancer.

Geriatric assessment (GA) is underused in oncology because clinic-based implementation is time- and resource-intensive, limiting routine evaluation of frailty and treatment tolerance. Existing digital tools often rely on proprietary devices and closed analytic pipelines. We developed the Geriatric Remote Initiative (GeRI), an open-source platform integrating a wrist-worn accelerometer, smart scale, and tablet interface with reproducible analytics and triggerable surveys. GeRI was evaluated in a 12-week home deployment among 10 men aged ≥65 years receiving androgen deprivation therapy for prost

Raman spectroscopic fingerprinting uncovers a multi-scale structural-mechanical-transcriptomic coupling landscape in osteoporosis.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disorder characterized by reduced bone strength and increased fracture risk. Conventional evaluation relies mainly on bone mineral density and microarchitecture, but these measures do not fully capture the tissue-level material properties that contribute to fragility. Here, we integrated Raman-derived compositional information with microarchitectural, local mechanical, and single-cell transcriptomic data to map a multi-scale coupling landscape and identify a conserved compositional fingerprint of osteoporotic trabecular bone. METHODS: Trabecular
