Alterations of the resting-state brain network connectivity and gray matter volume in patients with fibromyalgia in comparison to ankylosing spondylitis.

Fibromyalgia (FM) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are both rheumatic diseases characterized by significant musculoskeletal pain. In this study, we investigated the differences of the resting-state network (RSN) connectivity and gray matter volume (GMV) between FM, AS and healthy controls (HCs). We recruited 38 FM patients, 82 AS patients and 61 HCs in this study. All the participants underwent resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) scans in a GE 3.0T MR system. Independent component analysis (ICA) was conducted on the rs-fMRI data, and group differences of the rsFC between different resting-st

Developmental dysplasia of the hip caused by homozygous TRIM33 pathogenic variant affecting downstream BMP pathway.

BACKGROUND: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), formerly termed congenital dislocation of the hip, is the most common congenital disease of the musculoskeletal system in newborns. While familial predilection to DDH has been well documented, the molecular genetics/pathways of this common disorder are poorly understood. METHODS: Linkage analysis and whole exome sequencing; real-time PCR studies of skin fibroblasts. RESULTS: Consanguineous Bedouin kindred presented with DDH with apparent autosomal recessive heredity. Linkage analysis and whole exome sequencing delineated a single 3.2 Mbp …

Stability, Balance, and Physical Variables in Patients with Bilateral Hemophilic Arthropathy of the Ankle versus Their Healthy Peers: A Case-Control Study.

(1) Background: The recurrence of hemarthrosis in patients with hemophilia triggers a pathophysiological process of degenerative, progressive, and irreversible joint destruction. This hemophilic arthropathy is characterized by chronic pain, muscle atrophy, loss of mobility, and proprioceptive alterations. As the same joint undergoes repeated hemarthrosis, the function of the mechanical receptors deteriorates, causing a pathophysiological modulation and deterioration of the musculoskeletal system. The objective was to analyze the differences in stability and balance, as well as in ankle dorsal …

Utilizing artificial intelligence for the detection of hemarthrosis in hemophilia using point-of-care ultrasonography.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent hemarthrosis and resultant hemophilic arthropathy are significant causes of morbidity in persons with hemophilia, despite the marked evolution of hemophilia care. Prevention, timely diagnosis, and treatment of bleeding episodes are key. However, a physical examination or a patient's assessment of musculoskeletal pain may not accurately identify a joint bleed. This difficulty is compounded as hemophilic arthropathy progresses. OBJECTIVES: Our system aims to utilize artificial intelligence and ultrasonography (US; point-of-care and handheld) to enable providers, and ultima

Gait kinematics and knee stability 10-years following posterior-stabilised total knee arthroplasty comparable to healthy adults >55.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the long-term objective biomechanical and functional parameters of a high-flexion total knee arthroplasty (TKA) design against healthy older adults to determine whether knee biomechanics are comparable in both populations. METHODS: One cohort of patients with a primary TKA, and a cohort of healthy adults over 55 years old with no musculoskeletal deficits or arthritis participated. Bilateral knee range of motion (RoM) was assessed with a goniometer, and gait patterns were analysed with a three-dimensional-motion capture system. An arthrometer q

Recording of non-musculoskeletal manifestations, comorbidities and safety outcomes in European spondyloarthritis registries: a survey.

OBJECTIVES: Real-world evidence is needed to inform treatment strategies for patients with PsA and axial SpA (axSpA) who have non-musculoskeletal manifestations (NMMs), various risk factors and comorbidities. International collaboration is required to ensure statistical power and to enhance generalizability. The first step forward is identifying which data are currently being collected. Across 17 registries participating in the European Spondyloarthritis Research Collaboration (EuroSpA), we aimed to map recording practices for NMMs, comorbidities and safety outcomes in patients with PsA and ax

Bladder exstrophy-epispadias-cloacal exstrophy complex: characteristics, aetiologies, and epidemiologic findings.

Bladder exstrophy-epispadias-cloacal exstrophy complex (BEEC) is a spectrum of congenital urologic anomalies that involve the bladder, urethra, genitalia, and pelvic musculoskeletal system, and can affect urinary continence, sexual health, and fertility. BEEC includes a wide spectrum of anatomical abnormalities with different levels of severity: epispadias represents the mildest phenotype, classic bladder exstrophy (CBE) is the most common defect, and cloacal exstrophy (CE) - often referred to as omphalocele, exstrophy, imperforate anus, and spinal defects (OEIS) complex - is the most severe f…

MACCABI-RED, community emergency care at the press of a button: a descriptive study.

BACKGROUND: Maccabi-RED is a new service developed in Israel that allows primary care staff to direct urgent cases to specialists in the community for evaluation in their local clinics on the same day as an alternative to an emergency department (ED) visit. A primary care physician or a nurse can activate the service, and all nearby specialists receive "a call" and can decide if they are willing to accept it, thus allowing the patient to avoid an unnecessary visit to the ED. AIM: To quantify and characterize the medical care provided by this service in a large national healthcare system. DES

Psychophysical assessment of pain in adults with moderate and severe haemophilia: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Joint pain is the hallmark of haemophilia; therefore it seems clinically rather a musculoskeletal than a bleeding disorder. Although joint pain in people with haemophilia (PwH) is a complex and multidimensional problem, pain assessment remains primarily focused on the structural evaluation of their joints. Whereas, only few data are available on the potential implication of psychophysical and psychological factors. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to perform a psychophysical pain assessment including quantitative sensory testing (QST) and an evaluation of psychological factors in a lar
