Thymic carcinoid associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 1 (MEN-1) is a rare tumor. We report a case of MEN-1-related thymic carcinoid. The patient reported herein had already been diagnosed with MEN-1 and was found to have a mediastinal mass. She underwent thymectomy with partial resection of the left innominate vein and lung. Histological examination revealed atypical carcinoid with infiltration. MEN-1 gene mutation was detected by employing the direct nucleotide sequencing method. Benign endobronchial polyps are rare findings that present a diagnostic dilemma not only for the clinician but also for the pathologist. We describe a man with repeated visits to emergency departments for coughing spells who ultimately underwent bronchoscopy and biopsy. The biopsy specimen was initially diagnosed as a leiomyoma, but the final pathologic diagnosis of the gross specimen was a benign fibroepithelial polyp. We present the clinical history of this patient along with a brief review of the published literature regarding this rare clinical entity.

Sequela of tuberculosis (TB sequela) is defined as the state with various secondary complications after healing of TB, such as chronic respiratory failure (CRF), cor pulmonale or chronic pulmonary inflammation. METHODS: Data on a total of 629 cases of malignant trophoblastic tumor of stage III-IV in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 1990 to 2003 were reviewed. To determine the role of open tube thoracoscopy in the diagnosis and management of thoracic diseases, a retrospective review of 48 patients was conducted. A mediastinoscope was used for open tube thoracoscopy. Eleven patients underwent diagnostic thoracoscopy, and 4 patients had thoracoscopy for cancer staging. Pulmonary sequestration is a complex anomaly involving the pulmonary parenchyma and its vascularity. From 1975 to 1992, 10 cases have been treated at the UCLA Medical Center.
