Surface functionality and pH play a decisive role in governing the structural dynamics, hydration, and drug-binding behavior of dendrimers. Addition of NO to a nonheme dithiolate-ligated iron(II) complex, FeII(Me3TACN)(S2SiMe2) (1), results in the generation of N2O. Low-temperature spectroscopic studies reveal a metastable six-coordinate {FeNO}7 intermediate (S = 3/2) that was trapped at -135 °C and was characterized by low-temperature UV-vis, resonance Raman, EPR, Mössbauer, XAS, and DFT studies. Thermal decay of the {FeNO}7 species leads to the evolution of N2O, providing a rare example of a mononuclear thiolate-ligated {FeNO}7 that mediates NO reduction to N2O without the requirement of any exogenous electron or proton sources.

Clostridium ventriculi is a rare infection in poorly controlled diabetic patients with a history of gastroparesis. Peptic ulcer due to Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is a rare entity. In this case report a 55-year-old man had a medical history of esophageal reflux, vomiting, and diarrhea for 10 years. Despite continuous medication with a proton pump inhibitor, no complete recovery from symptoms was achieved. A diagnosis of gastrinoma was at first not considered. After discontinuation of the proton pump inhibitor for only a few days, the strong stimulation of the gastrinoma led to fulminant hydrochloric acid burn of the distal esophagus with iatrogenic or spontaneous perforation at the esophagogastral junction.

Mutations in the human mtDNA gene encoding subunit III of cytochrome c oxidase (CO) have been reported to cause MELAS and LHON. We present the first direct measurement of the Z=6 shell gap in the neutron-rich ^{20}O nucleus. The one-proton removal transfer reaction ^{2}H(^{20}O,^{3}He)^{19}N has been studied using the ACTAR TPC setup at GANIL. The use of ACTAR TPC enabled the measurement of low-cross section proton-removal reactions while preserving resolution. Water confined in poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) films exhibits enhanced basicity toward embedded chromophores, yet whether this anomalous reactivity reflects a broader acid-base duality remains unexplored.
