The capsaicin receptor TRPV1 is a polymodal sensory transducer molecule in the pain pathway. TRPV1 integrates noxious heat, tissue acidosis and chemical stimuli which are all known to cause pain. BACKGROUND: Every traumatic amputation of the thumb is an indication for an attempt of replantation. Due to local state of the wound not every case qualifies for this procedure. Such patients may be offered a multi-step salvage reconstruction of the amputated finger; the first step consists of an emergency implantation of the bony phalanx under the skin of the abdominal wall. Ocular pterygium-digital keloid dysplasia (OPDKD) presents in childhood with ingrowth of vascularized connective tissue on the cornea leading to severely reduced vision. The snake venom of Echis coloratus was found to abolish the hemagglutinating activity, hemolytic activity and in vivo infectivity of Sendai virus. The active factor (Echinhibin-1) was purified by gel filtration on Sephadex G-50, followed by chromatography on DEAE-Sepharose and CM-Sepharose.
