BACKGROUND: Navigation tracker pins rigidly fixed to bone is a prerequisite for computer-assisted total knee arthroplasty. The first cases of fracture on navigation tracker pin sites have recently been reported.
HYPOTHESIS: The risk of fracture depends first on diaphyseal placement of the tracker pins, and second on "transcortical" tangential route of the tracker pin as well as failure to obtain rigid fixation.

OBJECTIVE: To report the results of vertebral body stapling (VBS) with minimum 2-year follow-up in patients with idiopathic scoliosis.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: While bracing for idiopathic scoliosis is moderately successful, its efficacy has been called into question, and it carries associated psychosocial ramifications. VBS has been shown to be a safe, feasible alternative to bracing for idiopathic scoliosis.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 28 of 29 patients (96%) with idiopathic scoliosis treated with VBS followed for a minimum of 2 years.

Subcapital femoral neck fractures are a rare complication after fixation of an intertrochanteric fracture with a proximal femoral nail. We report 2 such cases where the patients had severe osteoporosis, based on Singh's index and pathological findings. In one case there was a technical error leading to a tip-apex distance of more than 20 mm, but osteoporosis appeared to be a more significant cause than any technical problems.

We evaluated the performance of the Targon PF nailing system in the treatment of complex proximal femoral fractures with a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data for 94 patients with a complex proximal femoral fracture (subtrochanteric fracture or fracture with reversed fracture line pattern) treated with a Targon PF nail. Five cases of Wassel types III, IV and VII thumb duplication underwent a Bilhaut-Cloquet procedure. A stable and mobile metacarpophalangeal joint was achieved in all cases. Interphalangeal joint motion was limited but this joint was stable in all cases. The nail ridge in these thumbs was minimal. A strong, stable thumb of normal size and good appearance can result from the Bilhaut-Cloquet procedure. When one nail is 70% of normal width, a modified procedure using the whole of one nail will avoid the nail ridge, but the nail will still differ from normal.

BACKGROUND: Complex subtrochanteric fractures are uncommon injuries and challenging to manage. We elucidate the role of the Long Gamma AP Locking Nail (LGAPN) in the management of such fractures in the acute stage.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Some patients who undergo thoracoabdominal hepatectomy suffer from pain and discomfort after because rib and/or costal cartilage was cut during the operation. The usefulness of absorbable rib connecting pins in thoracoabdominal hepatectomy was evaluated.

We present the results of using the Marchetti-Vicenzi nail in the management of 41 closed and 16 type I-III open tibial fractures in 56 patients. The treatment goals were to achieve stability and fracture alignment allowing early functional treatment of the knee and ankle by immediate partial or full weight-bearing. In this retrospective study 50 humeral fractures (36 acute, 6 pathological fractures and 8 non-unions) were treated by retrograde locked bundled Marchetti nailing. No intraoperative complications occurred. Postoperative complications included 7 non-unions (4/36 acute fractures and 3/8 delayed union), and 2 intraarticular penetrations of the secondary nails. However, at the subsequent removal of the implant 5 supracondylar fractures occurred.

The authors present a case of fracture dislocation of the ankle joint with the proximal part of the fibula entrapped behind the tibia ; Bosworth's fracture. This fracture was described for the first time in 1848 by Hugier, and classified by Bosworth in 1947. In our case, diagnosis was not done in a first time, and closed reduction failed. This fracture was operated on and open reduction was performed. At the present time, the functional result is good.
