BACKGROUND: Major intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) trials have largely been unable to demonstrate therapeutic benefit in improving functional outcomes. This may be partly due to the heterogeneity of ICH outcomes based on their location, where a small strategic ICH could be debilitating, thus confounding therapeutic effects. We aimed to determine the ideal hematoma volume cutoff for different ICH locations in predicting ICH outcomes.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive ICH patients enrolled in the University of Hong Kong prospective stroke registry from January 2011 to December 2018

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is the most severe of all the forms of leishmaniasis and usually lethal if untreated. The present work aimed to develop and characterize doxorubicin loaded mannan conjugated microparticles against experimental visceral leishmaniasis for selective and targeted delivery of doxorubicin to the macrophages of liver and spleen for the effective chemotherapy of VL. Macrophage targeting using doxorubicin loaded PLGA-microparticles would certainly improve the chemotherapy with reduced side effects against VL.

Ten patients with rheumatoid arthritis were given identical amounts of conventional aspirin (Magnecyl) tablets and micro-encapsulated aspirin (Reumyl) capsules. The surgical technique of double optic capture involves capturing the optic of an intraocular lens implant through both an anterior and posterior capsular opening as a method to reduce secondary capsule opacity and membranes, while ensuring intraocular lens (IOL) centration. The techniques of performing this procedure is described as well as newer surgical modifications of the technique for both pediatric and adult cataract surgery. Future directions involving its use in routine adult cataract surgery as a method to prevent posterior capsule opacity are discussed.

A 64-year-old Japanese male patient, status post-stapedectomy, presented with progressive, bilateral SNHL of 30 years' duration. CT showed extensive demineralization of the otic capsule, suggestive of otospongiotic change in both ears. There were no hyperostotic lesions found, which would have been suggestive of otosclerotic change. MRI showed a morphologically intact membranous labyrinth in both ears, with no obstruction of the cochlear lumen. It was concluded that the patient has progressive otospongiotic change of the otic capsule, but no otosclerotic change.

A case of inveterate dorsal dislocation of the MCP joint of the thumb treated by open reduction and tendon reinforcement of the volar capsule. The paper reports rare cases of inveterate, complete dorsal dislocation of the thumb MCP joint. After open reduction there was a full passive flexion but dorsal dislocation recurred. The tendency to return of dislocation was abolish by tendon reinforcement of the capsule of the joint described by Kessler. Follow up studies revealed no significant instability, the range of motion was between 20 degrees and 55 degrees of flexion.

Two cases of irreducible trans-scaphoid perilunate dislocation are described. In each case there was soft tissue interposition between the proximal and distal elements of the fracture-dislocation and this prevented capitolunate and scaphoid reduction. Six human cadaver eyes were used for intraocular lens (Shearing) insertion, and the results were photographed. It was found that with the posterior capsule intact, insertion was relatively simple and the feet were found to lie in the ciliary body sulcus with good fixation. Some decentering was common and difficult to correct, but not optically important. With the posterior capsule torn or missing, misplacement was common. After correct insertion, the lens was well fixated without pseudophakodonesis, and there was still found to be room for an additional 1.5 to 2.0 mm of movement.

Cilia may be carried into the eye following a penetrating injury. Such a case of a cilium in the anterior chamber is described. The cilium was discovered years later following an injury. A cilium was noted to extend through the cornea into the anterior chamber barely touching the anterior lens capsule. Although the lens surface directly directly adjacent to the foreign body was clear, an anterior capsule lens opacification and area of posterior syncechia were noted at the 3 o'clock meridian. The eye was quiet with no cell or flare noted. The vision was 20/20.
