Air-filled paratracheal bronchogenic cysts are extremely rare. They are lined by respiratory epithelium. We have operated on 2 patients whose cysts were diagnosed by CT scan: one presenting with bloody sputum and the other with dysphagia. Both patients had a history of neck surgery. Because such cases are rare in the literature, their exact origin, whether tracheocele, diverticulum or other form of air-filled cyst, remains a matter of debate. The authors report a case of acute intestinal bleeding caused by ulcerated segmental ileal dilatation occurring in a 5-month-old infant. The profuse emission of dark red blood per rectum caused acute anemia (Hb 5.3 g/dL). Because of absence of any other sign and symptom and normal plain x-ray, a bleeding Meckel's diverticulum was suspected. A 7-month-old, female English cocker spaniel was examined because of a complaint of urinary incontinence. Excretory urography revealed a small right kidney and right-sided hydroureter, ectopic ureter, and ureterocele. OBJECTIVE: Our aim was to report a fatal complication of hidradenitis suppurativa and a review of the literature.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A case of severe hidradenitis suppurativa obscuring the diagnosis and precluding the treatment of a ruptured sigmoid diverticulum is presented.
RESULTS: We describe a 48-year-old woman who had a long history of untreated hidradenitis suppurativa with extensive vulvar involvement and poor nutritional status. The advanced state of her disease on initial presentation led directly to her death.

We describe a 61 year-old caucasian male diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. He was started on methylprednisolone pulses because of a severe flare of symmetric polyarthritis while he was on weekly intramuscular methotrexate and low-dose oral prednisone. After the second pulse of methylprednisolone the patient suddenly developed severe abdominal pain with free air under the right hemidiaphragm in the chest roentgenogram. BACKGROUND: We describe our experience of a recently reported endoscopic stapling technique for the treatment of pharyngeal pouch.
METHODS: In contrast to other endoscopic procedures, which only divide the common wall between oesophagus and diverticulum, the linear cutting stapler also tightly seals the divided edges of mucosa and muscle.
RESULTS: The procedure was performed without complications in three patients with complete resolution of pre-treatment symptoms.

The small intestine is a frequent site for metastases of cutaneous or ocular melanoma. When the latter are absent, the diagnosis of primary intestinal melanoma can be proposed. Primary malignant melanoma of the small intestine arises from melanoblastic cells of the neural crests, which migrate to the distal ileum through the omphalomesenteric canal. A series of 23 patients is reviewed admitted to our hospital for non traumatic perforation of the small intestine, a condition found very rarely as a cause of acute abdominal disease.
