We report 2 cases of pancreatic cancer discovered incidentally in the wake of acute abdomen from other causes. Case 1 is a 67-year-old man who was referred to our hospital in October 2010 for the treatment of an incarcerated right inguinal hernia. The hernia was manually reduced, and mesh plug hernioplasty was scheduled for the next day. Three patients, two Moroccan men aged 27 and 25 and a Turkish man aged 25, presented with haemoptysis caused by pulmonary aneurysm. The aneurysms had formed as a complication of Behçet's disease. Two of them were treated with high doses of corticosteroids. One man recovered and another died as a consequence of massive haemoptysis. A non-neutropenic patient receiving corticosteroids for systemic lupus erythematosus presented with fever, headache, and seizures. Ring enhancing lesions were found on computed tomography of the brain, and biopsy demonstrated Aspergillus fumigatis. Gaucher disease type I is the so-called non-neuronal adult form of the autosomally inherited lysosomal storage disease. The simultaneous occurrence of Gaucher disease with Parkinson's syndrome has been reported to aggravate both disorders, leading to an unusually early onset and therapy resistance. Neurological alterations in Gaucher disease type I are mostly related to CNS bleeding and skeletal complications. The patient presented here was sensitive to combination therapy for 5 years.

BACKGROUND: The standard treatment of chylothorax in pediatric intensive care today includes conservative therapy with fat-free nutrition, total parenteral nutrition and, if this is not successful, operative treatment (pleurodesis, ligation of the duct, pleuroperitoneal shunt).
PATIENTS: We describe four patients who were not in a suitable condition for operative treatment and who were treated with continuous infusion of somatostatin.
RESULTS: In three patients, chylothorax ceased with the continuous somatostatin infusion without side effects. One patient was treated without success.
