Dual-Model Artificial Intelligence Framework Integrating AI-Based Markerless Motion Capture for Dynamic Gait Prediction and Health-Status Classification.

Background/Objectives: Human gait analysis is essential for identifying biomechanical alterations associated with pathological conditions. However, conventional laboratory systems that combine optical motion capture and force plates remain costly, space-demanding, and difficult to implement in routine or accessible settings. This study proposes a dual-model artificial intelligence framework designed to bridge kinematics and dynamics and subsequently support gait health-status classification from motion data. Methods: The first model was developed to estimate ground reaction forces (GRF) and ce…

Heart Rate Variability and Body Motion as Digital Biomarkers of Task Workload During Military En Route Critical Care Simulations.

Assessing task workload during military En Route Critical Care (ERCC) and other high-risk clinical operations remains challenging. This study evaluated heart rate variability (HRV) and body motion as digital biomarkers of task workload among Critical Care Air Transport (CCAT) teams during simulated ERCC missions. Seventy-two U.S. Air Force clinicians participated in 26 high-fidelity simulations. HRV and body motion were continuously captured via a chest-strap wearable sensor, and the NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) was used to assess self-reported workload. Results demonstrated high feasibilit…

The impact of motion correction on quantitatively measured perfusion indices using cardiac-dedicated dynamic CZT-SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging.

BACKGROUND: Dynamic myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) with cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) cardiac-dedicated single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) enables the quantification of myocardial blood flow (MBF), myocardial flow reserve (MFR), and non-invasive fractional flow reserve (niFFR). However, motion was a prominent challenge during dynamic acquisition that could distort these indices. This research aims to characterize the motion vector, evaluate the impact of motion correction (MC) on quantitative perfusion indices, compare MC and non-motion correction (NMC) datasets, and assess …

Prescribed performance synchronization control of dual-PMSM motion system via novel sliding mode control and adaptive extended state observer.

To address the challenges of parameter perturbations and load disturbances in dual permanent magnet synchronous motor systems, this paper proposes a control scheme integrating prescribed performance cross-coupling control (PPCCC), adaptive extended state observer (AESO), and novel sliding mode control (NSMC). Key innovations: (1) A hybrid sliding mode reaching law is designed, which dynamically adjusts the reaching speed through a combination of exponential and power terms. A sigmoid function is incorporated to effectively suppress chattering. (2) PPCCC is introduced to constrain the synchroni

Optical flow visual stimuli induce body sway and visually-induced motion sickness in virtual reality system: A preliminary study.

OBJECTIVES: Visually-induced motion sickness (VIMS) remains an unsolved issue when using head-mounted displays (HMD) in immersive virtual reality (VR) systems. We investigate the influence of restricted visual field on sensorimotor incongruence of postural control in an immersive VR environment, as a surrogate marker of VIMS while standing steadily and viewing ambiguous optical-flow visual stimuli. METHODS: Twenty-seven healthy participants wore HMD and viewed optical flow visual stimuli (called the plaid motion pattern) using a VR system. Visual stimuli were presented on a full-screen displa…

Motion-Steered Noise Management in Hearing Aids Reduces Listening Effort and Stress Indexed by Pupil Size and Heart Rate.

OBJECTIVES: Head and body movements influence real-world hearing outcomes, yet they are often overlooked in clinical evaluations of hearing aids. This reduces ecological validity and limits assessments of motion-based features. To overcome this, the present study introduces a novel experimental approach that incorporates natural human behavior during listening, utilizing virtual reality (VR) in an anechoic chamber equipped with a spherical 64-channel loudspeaker array and a naturalistic two-stage listening task. We hypothesized that heart rate, obtained unobtrusively with a wrist-worn device, …

Lower Limb Motion Classification of Actions in Confined Environments Based on Multi-Source Signal Fusion and Muscle Symmetry Features.

In recent years, advances in exoskeleton technology have increased the demand for human motion classification in terms of both movement diversity and recognition accuracy, making the effective classification of more complex asymmetric movements increasingly important. This study integrated surface electromyography (sEMG) and inertial measurement unit (IMU) signals and employed mutual information (MI) and muscle symmetry features (MSF) to analyze the characteristic differences between symmetrical muscles in both legs during asymmetric movements, with the aim of improving the accuracy of asymmet…

Role of spin-orbit and nuclear motion assisted spin-orbit coupling on the structural isomerism dependent intersystem crossing mechanism.

We investigate the intersystem crossing (ISC) mechanism of three isomeric molecules, namely, methyl 2-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)benzoate (o-MCBA), methyl 3-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)benzoate (m-MCBA), and methyl 4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)benzoate (p-MCBA). Our analyses highlight the role of direct spin-orbit (DSO) coupling, Herzberg-Teller (HT) coupling, and spin-vibronic (SV) coupling in facilitating the ISC processes in these molecules. We have found that the dominant ISC pathway between the lowest excited singlet state (SCT1o/p) having charge-transfer (CT) character and the triplet state (TCT1+LE1o/p) with mixed

A Proof-of-Concept Framework for Upper-Limb Segment Definition and Joint Angle Computation Using Marker-Based Motion Capture.

Marker-based motion capture systems are widely used to estimate joint kinematics, yet their accuracy depends strongly on how anatomical segments and coordinate systems are defined. This proof-of-concept study aimed to describe and technically evaluate a structured and reproducible framework for upper-limb segment definition and joint-angle computation. Reflective markers were placed on anatomical landmarks of the trunk and upper limbs, and joint angles were computed using custom-developed MATLAB R2022b (MathWorks, Natick, MA, USA) routines. Baseline-corrected model-derived joint angles were co…

Optimal heart rate threshold for phase selection in beta-blocker-free coronary CT angiography using second-generation motion correction.

PURPOSE: Beta-blocker-free coronary CT angiography (CCTA) improves workflow, but is often limited by motion artifacts at higher heart rates (HRs). Advances such as faster gantry rotation and second-generation motion correction (SSF2) may overcome these limitations. We aimed to determine the optimal HR cutoff for phase selection using SSF2. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 368 patients who underwent CCTA without beta-blockers using a 256-row CT scanner (rotation time, 0.234 s). Systolic and diastolic phases were acquired over two consecutive heartbeats, with images reconstructed with and …

Atrial natriuretic peptide may inhibit motion sickness through reducing aldosterone-induced increase in endolymph volume of the inner ear.

Previous studies have suggested that aldosterone is potentially involved in the development of motion sickness and that atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) may inhibit it. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the inhibitory effects of ANP on aldosterone activity in motion sickness and on aldosterone-induced changes in endolymph volume in the inner ear. We found that rotatory stimulation induced an elevation in plasma aldosterone levels, intraperitoneal aldosterone injection caused motion sickness-like responses in both guinea pigs and mice, and ANP inhibited these responses. …

ThoR: A Motion-Dependent Physics-Informed Deep Learning Framework with Constraint-Centric Theory of Functional Connections for Rainfall Nowcasting.

Accurate precipitation nowcasting is crucial for mitigating the impacts of extreme weather, especially as climate change increases their frequency and severity. Traditional methods, such as numerical weather prediction and radar extrapolation, face limitations in short-term and high-resolution forecasting. Recently, while deep learning approaches have advanced nowcasting by learning spatiotemporal patterns from radar data, they often suffer from blurry results due to uncertainty predictions and limited physical consistency. To deal with these challenges, we propose ThoR, a Motion-Dependent Phy…

Graphics Processing Unit-Accelerated Density-Fitting Coupled-Cluster and Equation-of-Motion Coupled-Cluster Methods with Spin-Orbit Coupling.

Coupled-cluster (CC) programs incorporating spin-orbit coupling (SOC) within the density-fitting (DF) approximation have been developed in this work. The implementations include DF-SOC-CCSD and DF-SOC-CCSD(T) for ground-state calculations and DF-SOC-EOM-EE-CCSD for excitation energies. The DF approximation reduces memory and disk usage, while a spin-independent formulation simplifies the code and enables efficient graphics processing unit (GPU) acceleration. Spatial symmetry and single/double precision are also supported to enhance computational efficiency. Benchmark calculations on heavy-elem
