Factors Affecting Pain, Fear, and Comfort Levels After Intramuscular Injection and Nursing Strategies.

BACKGROUND: Intramuscular (IM) injections are among the most frequently performed nursing interventions and are often associated with pain, fear, and reduced patient comfort. Although technical and individual factors influencing pain have been widely studied, limited evidence exists on the interrelationship between pain, fear, and comfort in adult patients receiving IM injections in emergency settings. AIM: This study aimed to determine factors associated with pain, fear, and comfort and to examine the relationships among these outcomes after intramuscular injection. DESIGN: This study was a

A cluster-randomized controlled trial of a nurse-led artificial intelligence assisted prevention and management for delirium (AI-AntiDelirium) on delirium in intensive care unit: Study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Delirium is a common complication among intensive care unit (ICU) patients that is linked to negative clinical outcomes. However, adherence to the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Pain, Agitation/Sedation, Delirium, Immobility, and Sleep Disruption in Adult Patients in the ICU (PADIS guidelines), which recommend the use of the ABCDEF bundle, is sub-optimal in routine clinical care. To address this issue, AI-AntiDelirium, a nurse-led artificial intelligence-assisted prevention and management tool for delirium, was developed by our research team. Our

Pain relief from nonpharmacological interventions in the intensive care unit: A scoping review.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To describe what is known from the existing literature on nonpharmacological interventions targeting pain in patients admitted to the ICU. BACKGROUND: Patients receiving intensive care nursing are exposed to a wide range of pain provoking tissue damage, diseases, surgery and other medical procedures in addition to the pain caused by nursing care procedures. The present shift to light sedation to improve patient outcomes and comfort underscores the need for effective pain management. Opioids are the mainstay for treating pain in the ICUs, whereas nonpharmacological treatme

The role of trust and health literacy in nurse-delivered point-of-care STI testing for pregnant women living with HIV, Tshwane District, South Africa.

BACKGROUND: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) during pregnancy result in neonatal morbidity and mortality, and may increase mother-to-child-transmission of HIV. Yet the World Health Organization's current syndromic management guidelines for STIs leaves most pregnant women undiagnosed and untreated. Point-of-care (POC) diagnostic tests for STIs can drastically improve detection and treatment. Though acceptable and feasible, poor medication adherence and re-infection due to lack of partner treatment threaten the programmatic effectiveness of POC diagnostic programmes. METHODS: To engender

New standards to improve catheter stabilization and patient and worker safety.

The 2006 version of the Infusion Nursing Society (INS) Standards of Practice contains important changes to the society's recommendations for catheter stabilization. Some previously recommended stabilization methods are no longer endorsed, and one method -- manufactured catheter stabilization devices -- has emerged as the preferred method over all others. The literature cited in the document suggests that implementation of the revised standards should be an effective risk management strategy where catheter stabilization is concerned.

Polycystic ovary syndrome: a case presentation.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a disorder of excessive adrenal hormone production that results in characteristic features. It is associated with hyperinsulinemia and, if left untreated, carries a risk for developing such complications as diabetes and heart disease. The clinical features are described here by means of a case presentation. Using the Ferriman-Gallwey score, the degree of hirsutism is identified. Differential diagnoses and recommended treatments are discussed. The role of the advanced practice nurse in the diagnosis and care of patients with PCOS is included.

Cardiovascular risk factors in homeless adults.

Homelessness is a growing problem in the United States, with population numbers ranging from 300,000 to several million. This article reviews five studies that focused on identification and assessment of cardiovascular risk factors in the homeless population. A case study presents the successful outcome of a homeless male with several risk factors. Assessment and intervention by a nurse practitioner led to his re-entry into the domiciled population. Implications for clinical practice and recommendations for further research are discussed.

Planetary Health in Nursing Scholarship: A Bibliometric Mapping of Climate Change, Sustainability, and Health-System Transformation.

BACKGROUND: Planetary health is an increasingly important transdisciplinary approach in nursing because it links human health and equity to the integrity of Earth's natural systems. Climate change is a major component of planetary health, but it is not synonymous with the broader approach, which also encompasses biodiversity loss, pollution, resource pressures, environmental sustainability, and the transformation of health systems. Although nursing scholarship has increasingly engaged with climate change and sustainability, it remains unclear whether planetary health has emerged as a distinct

The effects of mentorship and educational videos on nursing students' physical examination skills: a clinical audit.

BACKGROUND: Poor competence in clinical examination skills among nurses has been reported in practice, and there is a strong consensus that physical examination (PE) education must be improved. However, deficiencies cannot be resolved by theoretical training alone, and new training approaches are required to enable nursing students to perform PE accurately. This study aimed to determine and compare the effect of two new educational methods (mentorship and educational video methods) on the physical examination skills of Iranian nursing students. METHODS: This study was a clinical audit with th
