PURPOSE: Homonymous visual field defects (HVFD) are common and frequently occur after cerebrovascular accidents. They significantly impair visual function and cause disability particularly with regard to visual exploration. The purpose of this study was to assess a novel interventional treatment of monocular prism therapy on visual functioning in patients with HVFD of varied etiology using vision targeted, health-related quality of life (QOL) questionnaires. OBJECTIVE: To identify and describe patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) with concurrent functional visual loss (FVL).
DESIGN: Observational, retrospective case series.
PARTICIPANTS: Seventeen patients with IIH and FVL.

PURPOSE: To determine if multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG) testing shows abnormalities that correspond to perimetric defects in HIV positive patients without infectious retinitis.
METHODS: We studied three groups of patients: HIV negative controls, HIV high CD4 nadir patients (lowest CD4 T cell count is over 100) and low CD4 nadir patients (below 100 for over 6 months). Twenty-six HIV positive eyes and 16 HIV negative control eyes were studied by mfERG. A subset of 10 eyes also underwent computerized perimetry for comparison. BACKGROUND: The management for blow-out fractures is controversial. Some studies suggest early surgical treatment, others a conservative attitude.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We studied retrospectively the data of patients with blow-out fracture, referred to our Neuro-Ophthalmology and Strabismus Clinic from July 1993-May 2000. METHODS: FDT (C-20 threshold test) was performed in 22 consecutive patients presenting an end-stage visual field defect with 24-2 SITA (0 dB in more than 75% and less than 100% of the visual field). A kindred is described with progressive autosomal dominant vestibulo-cochlear dysfunction resulting in instability in the dark, head movement dependent oscillopsia and hearing loss. The first symptoms appeared in the 4th decade and progressed to vestibular areflexia, presumably in the 5th decade and to almost total deafness in the 6th-7th decade of life. The history was negative for other neurological, otological or infectious diseases, or the use of neuro-ototoxic drugs. The affected subjects showed remarkable compensation for the loss of vestibular function.

Four cases of right homonymous horizontal sectoranopia are described. They were investigated with automatic static perimetry matched in three cases with Goldmann perimetry.
