Role of lipid-associated fibroblasts and their signature genes FABP4, CD36 and ABCA8 in gastric cancer progression.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) serve key roles in gastric cancer progression, however, the role of specific CAF subsets, particularly lipid-rich CAFs (lipo-CAFs), remains unclear. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate whether lipo-CAFs are associated with gastric cancer progression. A total of 28 lipo-CAF-associated genes was used to classify patients with gastric cancer in The Cancer Genome Atlas Stomach Adenocarcinoma dataset. Differential expression analysis was subsequently performed to identify biological processes and pathways associated with the lipo-CAF phenotype. Val

Exploring shared pathogenic mechanisms and biomarkers in hepatic fibrosis and inflammatory bowel disease through bioinformatics and machine learning.

BACKGROUND: The coexistence of hepatic fibrosis (HF) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) represents a significant clinical concern due to their poorly characterized shared pathogenic mechanisms. Current limitations in identifying common biomarkers for comorbid cases impede early dual diagnosis and therapeutic interventions. METHODS: Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened, followed by Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) to identify disease-associated modules. The key diagnostic biomarkers were determined via a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network combined wi

Underlying Mechanisms of GBA1 in Parkinson's Disease and Dementia with Lewy Bodies: Narrative Review.

Background/Objectives: Parkinson's disease (PD) and Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB) are neurodegenerative disorders characterized by the accumulation of misfolded alpha-synuclein protein in the brain. Mutations in the glucocerebrosidase 1 (GBA1) gene have been identified as a significant genetic risk factor for both PD and DLB. GBA1 encodes for the lysosomal enzyme glucocerebrosidase, which is responsible for the breakdown of glucosylceramide (GC). Deficiencies in glucocerebrosidase activity lead to the accumulation of glucosylceramide within lysosomes, contributing to lysosomal dysfunction an

Exploring Marine natural products as potential Quorum sensing inhibitors by targeting the PqsR in Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Virtual screening assisted structural dynamics study.

Antibiotic resistance is a critical global health issue, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a particularly challenging pathogen. This gram-negative bacterium is notorious for its high virulence and resistance to antimicrobial agents, making it a leading cause of nosocomial infections, significantly impacting public health. The adaptability and multidrug resistance of P. aeruginosa exacerbate treatment difficulties, resulting in increased morbidity and mortality rates worldwide. Consequently, targeting bacterial quorum sensing (QS) systems is a promising strategy for the development of novel antimic

BACKGROUND: Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a chronic systemic autoimmune It chiefly impacts the exocrine glands, specifically the salivary and lacrimal ones, causing manifestations such as dry mouth and eye. Sjögren's syndrome often coexists with other autoimmune diseases, making it difficult to study its pathogenesis. Mounting evidence suggests that microRNAs (miRNAs) play a pivotal role in the development of autoimmune diseases, yet the precise mechanisms underlying their involvement in SS remain to be fully elucidated. METHODS: A cohort dataset pertaining to Sjögren's syndrome was procured fro
