This is a report on the first results of application of "Uzor" laser device in dentistry. Semiconductor lasers are used in it. Bioeffective regimens of magneto-laser therapy were established to treat maxillofacial pathology. A series of techniques is offered to treat some particular diseases: arthritis, alveolitis, sialoadenitis, pericoronitis, jaw fractures.

Helium-neon laser LH-75 was used to treat 60 inbred mice and 62 patients with vasomotor rhinitis. The patients were given 10 laser sessions. In animals, all responses of T-lymphocytes were modified. Cyclic changes that developed during laser irradiation were accompanied by immunity suppression or activation. Transvitreal pars plana sclerotomy using the contact Nd:YAG laser with a sapphire probe was performed on a group of rabbit eyes and compared with a similar procedure performed with a Ziegler knife. Although the intraocular pressure (IOP) was lowered in both groups of animals, the reduction was greater and more lasting in the group on which the Nd:YAG laser with sapphire probe was used. This technique may have application in cases with extensive peripheral anterior synechiae or where a vitrectomy as a combination procedure to clear ocular media is performed.

A series of 31 glottic T1 tumours, 18 T1A and 13 T1S, treated endoscopically by carbon dioxide laser surgery is presented. There were 3 recurrences in each group which were successfully treated by repeated laser surgery or radiotherapy. A comparison of the quality of the voice with T1A tumours primarily treated by radiotherapy using a GRBAS score is made. The quality changed for the worse permanently after laser excision.

Current development in endourologic equipment has made possible the endoscopic application of the Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of urothelial tumors of the whole urinary tract. The clinical results are rather promising. We controlled with various methods the healing processes of 14 rabbit ureters after Nd:YAG laser treatment as to morphological repair and physiological function. In 34 patients (35 eyes) with successfully treated histoplasmic choroidal neovascular membranes with a mean follow-up of 10.1 years, neither the neovascular membrane size nor the distance to the center of the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) affected final visual acuity. We used argon laser trabeculoplasty to treat medically uncontrolled glaucoma after penetrating keratoplasty in ten eyes that were aphakic or pseudophakic. These patients were examined over an average of 22.8 months (range, 12 to 37 months) after treatment. Thirteen adult patients underwent palliative Nd-YAG laser treatment for relief of severe dyspnea due to malignant endotracheal obstruction. We performed argon-laser iridotomy on pigmented rabbits and examined histologically the tissue of the anterior chamber angle, the iris, and the ciliary body. We used a contact Nd:YAG laser fit with a 0.2-mm diameter sapphire tip to excise a large (5 1/2 clock hour) iris ciliary body-choroidal tumor and a large (15 X 8 X 3 mm) choroidal tumor. The cutting and coagulation action of the laser helped to minimize intraoperative and postoperative hemorrhage.

The results of palliative treatment, with laser photocoagulation used alone, of oesophagogastric tumours in 23 patients mean age 81.9 (range 75-93) years are reviewed. Most were frail including five with metastatic disease, seven with cardiovascular disease and five with cerebrovascular disease. Nd:YAG laser therapy is an attractive palliative treatment for carcinoma of the esophagus and gastric cardia. Twenty-five patients with these tumors underwent laser therapy over a 2-year period, receiving a total of 52 courses of therapy with 189 treatments. Treatments per course averaged 3.6, with a mean of two courses per patient.
