BACKGROUND: Non-invasive evaluation of phosphomonoesters (PMEs) and phosphodiesters (PDEs) by 31-phosphorus MR spectroscopy (31P MRS) may have potential for early therapy (non-)response assessment in cancer. However, 31P MRS has not yet been applied to investigate the human pancreas in vivo.
PURPOSE: To assess the technical feasibility and repeatability of 31P MR spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) of the pancreas, compare 31P metabolite levels between pancreas and liver, and determine the feasibility of 31P MRSI in pancreatic cancer.

OBJECTIVES: Fusobacterium can contribute to oral diseases, but also pose as a systemic risk factor. This genus, and especially F. nucleatum, can be found in colorectal cancer (CRC) tissue and is involved in multiple aspects of this type of cancer. Previous studies indicated a possible oral origin of these bacteria; however, stronger evidence is needed to reach a definitive conclusion. This pilot study aimed to establish a method to successfully compare, at the strain level, fusobacteria from the oral cavity and CRC resection material for future cohort studies of CRC patients.

PROBLEM: Female sex workers (FSW) experience a disproportionately high burden of HIV infection, yet characterization of the vaginal immune microenvironment that may impact biological risk is not well studied among FSW in the United States. Additionally, feasible methodology for collecting biological materials has not been evaluated in this population.
METHODS: We enrolled 10 FSW (5 premenopausal, 5 postmenopausal) who participated in a survey and provided vaginal swabs. Biomarkers were assessed by ELISA, and included cytokines, chemokines, and antimicrobial/wound-healing mediators.

UNLABELLED: COVID-19 comorbid with noncommunicable chronic diseases (NCDs) complicates the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis, and increases the mortality rate. The aim is to evaluate the effects of a restricted diet on clinical/laboratory inflammation and metabolic profile, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and body composition in patients with COVID-19 comorbid with NCDs.
