Acteoside-improved streptozotocin-induced learning and memory impairment by upregulating hippocampal insulin, glucose transport, and energy metabolism.

Alzheimer's disease (AD), a neurodegenerative disease, has been, by and large, correlated to insulin pathway, glucose level, and energy metabolism in the brain. Intracerebroventricular administration of streptozotocin (ICV-STZ) leads to glucose and energy metabolism dysfunction, cognitive impairment, and increased oxidative stress in the brain. Acteoside has a myriad of pharmacological effects on the brain, namely, neuroprotection and recuperation of cognitive functions. The primary focus of the current study was to examine the effect of acteoside on insulin, glucose transport, and energy meta

Macro and microfilaricidal activities of extracts of Annona senegalensis and Milletia comosa against Onchocerca ochengi and Loa loa.

Despite the efforts employed for the control of onchocerciasis, the latter has remained a significant public health problem, due mainly to the lack of safe and effective adult worm drugs and/or microfilaricides that do not kill Loa loa microfilariae (mf). Serious adverse events have been encountered after administering ivermectin to some onchocerciasis patients coinfected with Loa loa. There is therefore, an urgent need for a macro and/or microfilaricidal drug which kills Onchocerca but not L. loa microfilariae. A total of 12 crude extracts from Milletia comosa and Annona senegalensis were pre

How 3-O-Glucosylation Modulates Resveratrol Radical Scavenging: A QM-ORSA Study of Polydatin/Piceid, a Stilbenoid Glucoside.

The antioxidant properties of polydatin/piceid (3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-resveratrol), a stilbenoid polyphenol widely found in Vitaceae, Liliaceae, and Leguminosae plants and used in traditional medicine, have been investigated against the •OOH radical by means of a density functional theory-based QM-ORSA protocol. The central mechanistic question addressed is how 3-O-glucosylation modulates the primary antiradical activity. To provide a biologically meaningful answer, its mechanisms of action were studied in both aqueous solution at physiological pH and in a lipid-like environment. Conformation

Biochar-Straw Interaction Drives Soil Carbon Accrual by Modulating Microbial Metabolic Pathways.

Straw and biochar additions can enhance long-term carbon storage, yet how their interactions regulate carbon mineralization and allocation remains unclear. We conducted a 360-day microcosm incubation employing a reciprocal 13C-labeling design that paired 13C-labeled straw with unlabeled biochar and unlabeled straw with 13C-labeled biochar and used single-cell Raman spectroscopy and 13C-labeled cell metagenomics. At day 360, biochar reduced cumulative straw-derived 13CO2 from 1391 to 1199 mg C kg-1 soil, while increasing straw-C allocation to fulvic acid (FA) and humic acid (HA) fractions. This

Targeting neurohormonal signaling cascades in cardiac hypertrophy: Multi-layered anti-hypertrophic paradigm of pyrogallol.

Pathological cardiac hypertrophy represents a maladaptive response to chronic neurohumoral stimuli mediated by the overlapping renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and sympathetic nervous system (SNS). Continuous stimulation by Angiotensin II (Ang II) and norepinephrine (NE) drives adverse cardiac remodeling, subcellular microdomain remodeling, and embryonic fetal gene re-expression, accelerating progression to heart failure. Recent paradigms highlight the critical role of compartmentalized receptors situated in Golgi membranes in sustaining pro-hypertrophic signaling. Here, we examine the integrate

Generation of GPC-3-targeted radicals for precise therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Exogenous free radicals oxidize and damage tumor proteins, but their non-specific reactivity also causes unintended harm to tumor-suppressive proteins, which compromises the therapeutic efficacy. Here we show a nanosystem that generates in-situ radical-conjugated species with predefined targeting capability toward oncogenic protein. This nanosystem consists of lipid nanoparticles encapsulating polyphenolic tannic acid and hydrophobic calcium peroxide nanoparticles in spatially segregated compartments. Upon cellular uptake, the components are released into the cellular membrane through membrane

Resveratrol in Microplastic- and Nanoplastic-Induced Toxicity: Current Evidence, Mechanistic Insights, and Future Directions.

Microplastic (MP; MPs) and nanoplastic (NP; NPs) pollution poses a growing threat to global health. Their small size and large surface area facilitate ingestion, accumulation, and interactions with biological systems, leading to toxicity through oxidative stress, inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and cell death. These effects may occur directly or through the release of adsorbed pollutants and plastic additives. Resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene; RV), a natural polyphenol found in grapes, berries, and peanuts, has attracted interest as a potential protective agent because of

Membrane Fusion-Based Mirabilis Himalaica-Derived Exosome-like Nanoparticles Fused with Cell-Penetrating Peptide Mediated for Chebulinic Acid Delivery Against UVA-Induced Photoaging.

Exposure to ultraviolet (UV), particularly UVA radiation, is a primary driver of photoaging due to its deep dermal penetration, which triggers DNA damage, collagen degradation, and immune suppression. Chebulinic acid (CA), a polyphenolic compound from Terminalia chebula, exhibits potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties against UVB-induced skin damage. However, its large molecular weight hinders transdermal delivery and the TAT47-57 peptide (core of HIV-1 TAT) enables rapid transmembrane transport. Large particles with double-layer membrane structure and a diameter exceeding 1000 nm
