A comparison of minimal cross sectional areas, nasal volumes and peak nasal inspiratory flow between patients with obstructive sleep apnea and healthy controls.

BACKGROUND: Acute idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) represents the most frequent hemorrhagic diathesis in childhood. Up to 30% of patients with ITP are regarded as refractory to standard therapy. The rare mortality from acute ITP in childhood is almost exclusively due to intracranial hemorrhage. This complication occurs in less than 1% of ITP patients. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of alpha-interferon (IFN-alpha) in eight patients whom did not respond to conventional therapy. METHOD: In spite of conventional therapies, the patient whose platelet count could not be inc

CT comparison of primary snoring and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome: role of pharyngeal narrowing ratio and soft palate-tongue contact in awake patient.

Soft palate-tongue contact and automatically calculated pharyngeal narrowing ratio (PNR), defined as a ratio between the airway cross-section at the hard palate level and the narrowest cross-section from the hard palate to the epiglottis, could assist in earlier identification of potential obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) patients even on awake individuals. Parameters were studied on carotid CTA images from 67 consecutively included awake Caucasians who were later classified by second independent physician into the primary snorers (SNORE, n = 34) or obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patie

C-Reactive Protein as a Predictor of Cardiovascular Events and Mortality in Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Propensity-Matched Analysis Using the TriNetX Research Network.

INTRODUCTION: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) increases cardiovascular disease risk through systemic inflammation, particularly through elevated C-reactive protein (CRP). This study investigated whether CRP stratification predicts mortality and cardiovascular events in OSA patients. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort analysis using the TriNetX Research Network, encompassing electronic health records from 130 healthcare institutions. Adults (ages 18-90 years) with OSA were stratified by CRP concentration: elevated (≥ 3.0 mg/L) versus low (≤ 2.9 mg/L). After propensity score matching fo

ICAM-1 targeted extracellular vesicles loaded with HC-070 mitigate vascular oxidative stress and inflammation in obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome by inhibiting TRPC5.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS) significantly contributes to cardiovascular diseases through severe endothelial dysfunction, a pathology driven primarily by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH)-induced oxidative stress and inflammation. Current interventions inadequately address this vascular component. Human umbilical mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (HUMSC-EVs) have regenerative potential, but improved targeting is needed to maximize therapeutic efficacy. This study sought to engineer and evaluate Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 1 (ICAM-1) targeted EVs loa

Development and External Validation of an Interpretable Machine Learning-Based Prediction Model for Depressive Symptoms in Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Multicenter Study.

INTRODUCTION: Depressive symptoms commonly co-occur with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), increase disease burden, and may precede major depressive disorder (MDD). In routine sleep-clinic practice, mood symptoms can be overlooked during the work-up for suspected OSA and at the time of polysomnography (PSG)-confirmed diagnosis, because consultations focus primarily on sleep-breathing and cardiometabolic complaints. Guided by the biopsychosocial model, this multicenter study aimed to develop and validate an interpretable machine-learning (ML) model to predict the risk of depressive symptoms in pat

Assessment of the knowledge and awareness among general medical practitioners toward dental intervention in diagnosing and treating obstructive sleep apnea: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), one of the most common sleep disorders, is associated with a large amount of morbidity to both the heart and metabolic function. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) remains the gold standard treatment for patients with OSA. In contrast, Dental treatments such as Mandibular Advancement Devices (MADs) are considered well-established alternatives for certain patients. Since General Practitioners (GPs) often initiate the diagnostic and therapeutic management of these patients, the extent of their understanding of dental and craniofacial management

Impact of an early follow-up visit on adherence and adherence trajectories after initiation of continuous positive airway pressure therapy for obstructive sleep apnea.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) outcomes depends on adherence, yet the effect of different patient support strategies on adherence is poorly studied. This study assessed whether an early home visit improves CPAP adherence and trajectories in obstructive sleep apnoea, and which patients benefit most. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This multicenter cohort study analysed home service provider data from adults starting CPAP in 2019-2022 who had >90 days of telemonitoring data. Adherence was compared before and after the early visit, overall and in subgroups based on
