OBJECTIVES: This clinical trial explored the clinical and radiographic dimensional changes of the alveolar ridge in the first 4 months after tooth extraction in combination with the application of Leukocyte- and Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF).
METHODS: Eighteen single rooted maxillary and mandibular sockets were filled with L-PRF without soft tissue closure. Clinical measurements (bone sounding) were performed using a customized acrylic stent and radiographic measurements were accomplished using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), immediately after tooth extraction and after 4 months.

BACKGROUND: We are presenting our experience in the use of locking compression plate (LCP) after juxta-articular oncological resections in addition to its use in pathologic fracture.
METHODS: A retrospective audit of skeletal reconstruction using LCP in 25 cases of long bone tumors was performed from 2008 to 2010. Reconstruction following limb salvage surgery was done in 17 patients and internal fixation of pathological fracture was done in 8 patients. All patients were available for > 12 months of follow-up, and thus assessed for union at the resected ends.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to analyze the response of inflammatory cytokines interleukin-8 (IL-8) and NF-κB to the closure of skull defect with periosteum as a scaffolding material in bone healing used after surgery.
METHODS: Thirty Oryctolagus cuniculus rabbits underwent a craniotomy to create a 20 mm diameter round defect in the parietal bones. The parietal bones were returned to its place and stabilized by an internal plate fixation. The defects were either left empty or implanted with periosteum. INTRODUCTION: The incidence of nonunion after fractures of the distal femur is up to 6%. The distal femoral nonunion is a disabling disease that needs complex steps in his treatment. Aim of our study is to find predicting factors of non-unions.

In 23 patients, simple bone cysts were treated by curettage followed by packing the cavity with cubes of high-porosity hydroxyapatite (HA). In 22 patients, HA was packed exclusively without autogeneic bone graft. Except in one patient who sustained pathologic fracture at the femoral diaphysis, HA was packed with a fibula strut graft.
