Screening for advanced liver fibrosis due to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease alongside retina scanning in people with type 2 diabetes: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: International guidelines suggest screening for advanced fibrosis due to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease in people with type 2 diabetes, but how to implement these guidelines in clinical care remains unclear. We hypothesise that examination with VCTE could be implemented simultaneously with retina scanning with a high acceptance rate in people with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, we offered VCTE to people with type 2 diabetes referred to routine retina scanning in a large retina scanning facility in Stockholm, Sweden. We excluded pe

How speech and language therapists and parents work together in the therapeutic process for children with speech sound disorder: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Speech sound disorders (SSDs) are broadly defined as difficulty producing speech sounds in childhood. Reported prevalence of SSD varies from 2.3% to 24.6%, depending on how SSD is defined and the included age range. SSDs that do not resolve before age 8 can have a lasting impact on a child's academic achievements. The intensity of intervention for SSD is important to ensure effectiveness. However, there is a gap between the evidence base for intensity and speech and language therapists' (SLTs) clinical practice. One way that SLTs try to bridge this gap is by working with parents. S

Behavioral change techniques and patient co-design in programs for hand osteoarthritis: a scoping review with directed content analysis.

BACKGROUND: Hand osteoarthritis (HOA) is a common and disabling condition that impairs hand function. Traditional joint protection programs (JPPs) are recommended for reducing pain and deformity and potentially slowing disease progression. While JPPs are supported by trials, programs are outdated, not co-designed and poorly implemented. Behavioral science frameworks and patient co-design methodologies may enhance relevance, adherence, effectiveness, and sustainability. PURPOSE: This study aimed to map and characterize the behavioral components of JPPs for adults with HOA and to examine the ex

Robotic-assisted surgery in vascular surgery: a 29-year bibliometric analysis and emerging research trends.

In many medical specialties, robot-assisted surgery has become a crucial option for surgical interventions. However, its adoption in vascular surgery remains limited, with this discipline lagging behind other fields in both research and application of this technology. The rapid advancement of robot-assisted surgery presents both an opportunity and a challenge for the development of vascular surgery. Bibliometrics can systematically and quantitatively summarize research achievements, key research directions, and emerging trends in this field, thereby guiding future research efforts on the appli

The Muscle Cramp Impact Index: A Patient-Centered Scale for the Assessment of Muscle Cramps.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Muscle cramps are common, variably disabling, and lack a comprehensive validated tool to assess their multidimensional effect. Previous cramp studies have relied primarily on cramp frequency and intensity, despite qualitative work demonstrating that sleep disturbance, daytime functioning, and mental health are also important to patients. Guided by these findings, the aim of this study was to develop and validate a patient-reported outcome measure, the Muscle Cramp Impact Index (MCII), to assess the effect of muscle cramps across diverse etiologies and clinical settin

Association between immune checkpoint inhibitors and the risk and prognosis of uveitis: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) activate antitumor immunity by targeting immune checkpoint molecules such as cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4), programmed death receptor 1 (PD-1), and programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1). They have emerged as a key therapeutic modality for multiple malignancies. Nevertheless, excessive immune activation may trigger a spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Though uncommon, uveitis is a sight-threatening irAEs that can result in permanent visual loss. The risk and prognostic outcomes of ICIs-associated uveitis remain p

The effectiveness of concurrent training in lung cancer survivors: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Lung cancer is associated with marked functional decline, symptom burden, and reduced quality of life across the cancer care continuum. Although exercise is increasingly supported in oncology, evidence specific to concurrent training in people with lung cancer remains limited and heterogeneous. This review synthesized the effects of concurrent training in adults with a confirmed lung cancer diagnosis who were undergoing or had completed oncological treatment, with pulmonary function as the prespecified primary outcome and physical fitness, functional capacity, and patient-reported

Conceptualising and operationalising 'patient and public involvement' (PPI) and 'responsible research and innovation' (RRI) in youth mental health research: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Meaningful youth involvement has gained attention in mental health research, especially in collaborative approaches such as Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). While both aim to support inclusive research, there is limited clarity on how they are conceptualised and used in projects together with young people. This scoping review examines how PPI and RRI approaches are defined and implemented in mental health research involving young people as collaborators rather than solely as research participants. METHODS: The included studies wer

A systematic review of fNIRS-based neurovascular coupling research: Methodological landscape and translational considerations for spaceflight.

BACKGROUND: The foundation of cognition is neurovascular coupling (NVC), which is defined as a connection between cerebral blood flow and neuronal activity. NVC can be affected by the situation the person is present in, for example, spaceflight conditions such as sleep deprivation, hypoxia, and microgravity. Therefore, monitoring the phenomena of NVC and how it is being affected under different conditions is very important. There are several tools available for the monitoring of NVC, and among them all, a promising tool is functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) that offers benefits like
