INTRODUCTION: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a significant global issue and a leading cause of preventable childhood blindness. Early screening and timely management of preterm babies at risk are crucial. To effectively implement this strategy, it is essential that caregivers and health workers are well-informed about ROP. This study plays a vital role in assessing the knowledge, attitudes and practices of caregivers and healthcare workers towards ROP in Uganda, providing valuable insights into the current understanding and approach towards this condition.

INTRODUCTION: Virtually all adults in aged care facilities are frail, a condition which contributes to falls, cognitive decline, hospitalisation, and mortality. Polypharmacy, malnutrition, sedentariness, and sarcopenia are risk factors amenable to intervention. The Asia-Pacific Frailty Management Guidelines recommend anabolic exercise and the optimisation of medications and nutrition. However, no study has evaluated this best practice intervention triad in aged care.
METHODS: The Frailty Reduction via the Implementation of Exercise, Nutrition, and Deprescribing (FRIEND) Trial (ANZCTR No.ACTRN

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To determine whether a low-dose intravenous insulin regimen reduces blood glucose levels at a timely rate and associated side effects among patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome and Left Ventricular Failure.
BACKGROUND: Induced hypoglycaemia and the associated risks have questioned the benefits of intensive insulin therapy in patients presenting with raised blood glucose levels and Acute Coronary Syndromes. Local audit data identified that patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome and Left Ventricular Failure experienced more hypoglycaemic episodes than those with Acute Coron

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home-based therapy. Face masks have historically been used as an infection-prevention measure during PD exchanges, although their effectiveness remains uncertain. Current evidence emphasizes hand hygiene and aseptic technique, while the incremental benefit of routine face mask use has not been clearly established. We conducted a cross-sectional online survey of PD nurses and nephrologists to describe clinical practices regarding face mask use during PD exchanges. Participants were recruited through professional networks and international professional

BACKGROUND: Sepsis is a condition of life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to an infection. Adults with suspected sepsis or possible septic shock should receive antimicrobials within 1 hour. Early administration of antibiotics to patients with sepsis has been shown to decrease in-hospital mortality. Factors that affect antibiotic administration time include the antibiotic dispensary location, best practice alerts in electronic medical records, and staff "huddles" to continuously reinforce the importance of antibiotics.

INTRODUCTION: Society guidelines recommend caregivers of neonates, including both co-parents, be up to date on Tdap, COVID-19, and influenza vaccines before delivery to prevent primary transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases to the infant. However, only one third of reproductive-age individuals are up to date on recommended vaccinations. Pregnant individuals often receive recommended vaccines during prenatal care, but limited research has investigated if prenatal care can also provide opportunities to increase vaccination rates among non-birthing partners/co-parents.

BACKGROUND: Emergency Departments (ED) staff, including nurses and physicians, are most directly involved in the care of people who use unregulated substances, and are ideally positioned to provide harm reduction interventions. Conceptualizing the ED as a complex adaptive system, this paper examines how ED staff experience opioid-specific harm reduction provision and engage in harm reduction practice, including potential facilitators and barriers to engagement.
METHODS: Using a mixed methods approach, ED nurses and physicians completed a self-administered staff survey (n = 99) and one-on-one

Introduction Acute pancreatitis (AP), characterized by the inflammation of the pancreas, is a common acute surgical condition accounting for approximately 3% of all surgical admissions with abdominal pain and has an incidence of approximately 56 cases per 100,000 population every year. The General Medical Council (GMC), National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and Royal College of Nursing best practice guidelines recommend that such patients and their family members should be provided with both verbal and written information about acute pancreatitis and its management in a way

Heart transplantation (HTx) remains the gold standard treatment for selected patients with advanced heart failure and survival after transplantation has substantially improved over recent decades. As a consequence, the number of long-term HTx recipients continues to increase, and these patients are now frequently encountered in routine practice outside specialized transplant centers. Their management remains complex due to the use of chronic immunosuppression, transplant-specific complications, and a growing burden of comorbidities in the perspective of increasing longevity. Non-transplant car

AIM: To develop and evaluate an immersive simulation using interactive video scenario for guided tour of the birthing room.
BACKGROUND: Establishing a prior connection between pregnant women and the maternity unit is a strategy to humanize childbirth. The creation of an immersive simulation using interactive video mediated by a mobile health tool may support this initiative, providing an alternative approach for pregnant women to become familiar with the environment where they will give birth.
DESIGN: Methodological study.
METHODS: The study followed three phases: (1) development of the sim

INTRODUCTION: Nocturnal in-center hemodialysis (HD) offers a higher dialysis dose and longer ultrafiltration time than regular HD, which potentially benefits at least a selection of patients. Currently, only a minority of HD patients have access to in-center nocturnal HD. Many practical and logistical problems must be overcome by an HD center before the treatment can become operational.
METHODS: For assessing the detailed organization of in-center nocturnal HD in the Netherlands, an observational cross-sectional study was performed using Nefrodata (Dutch Registry of dialysis patients) and str

BACKGROUND: Phase II cardiac rehabilitation is essential for patient recovery, and nurses play a central role in implementing exercise prescriptions. However, training systems for this competency remain underdeveloped in China. This study examined the training status and self-reported training needs of nurses working in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation settings, and explored factors associated with prior formal participation in phase II cardiac rehabilitation exercise prescription training. An exploratory nomogram was further developed as a preliminary tool for characterizing differences in prio

Background/Objectives: Nursing is characterised by demanding working conditions, including long working hours and staffing shortages. Although Decent Work (DW) has been proposed as a framework for improving labour conditions, existing measures do not adequately capture how these conditions are experienced in practice. This study aimed to develop and validate the Decent Work Scale for Hospital Nurses (DWS-N), conceptualising DW as the experiential realisation of structural labour conditions. Methods: A multi-phase methodological design was employed. In Phase 1, 184 items were generated through
