Morphometric analysis of the kidney of the camel was carried out on gross slices and histological sections using standard morphometric methods. The renal cortex occupied about 50% by volume of the kidney, and the ratio of the thickness of the medulla to that of the cortex was about 4:1. The relative thickness of the medulla was about 7.89. This parameter is an indicator of the lengths of the loops of Henle and vasa recta, and, according to the countercurrent theory, is consequently an indicator of the ability of the kidney to concentrate urine. Long-term observations after adrenal surgery show different results according to indications for operations. The longest period of observation shows 8 patients with adrenal hyperplasia. In 3 of 4 bilaterally adrenalectomised patients no satisfactory results were obtained despite substitution treatment; 4 one-side adrenalectomised patients are in good condition. The effect of intravenous verapamil on the termination of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) was studied by continuous electrocardiographic monitoring of 27 episodes of SVT. This paper emphasizes the usefulness of play observation for diagnosis, treatment, and understanding suicidal behavior of children. Predictive indicators of play for potential suicidal behavior are themes of separation and loss, repetition of dangerous and reckless behavior, misuse and destruction of toys, and repetitive acting out of omnipotent fantasies. The selection of a suicidal method is partly derived from unconscious motivations that are illustrated in play themes. This study revealed a characteristic suicidal technique of latency age children seems to be jumping from heights.

Of 63 patients with reflux and renal atrophy renal dysplasia was found in 9.5%. Pyelonephritis was apparent in 81% of the atrophic lesions. Urinary obstruction or ectasia was apparent in each case with dysplasia and only 2 were associated with histologic evidence of pyelonephritis. Pyelonephritis appears to be a major causal factor in atrophy occurring in renal units with reflux. Early urinary tract obstruction or distension may predispose to renal dysplasia.

The growth and development data of 20 patients with the Silver-Russell syndrome (14 boys, 6 girls) were analyzed. Family history, pregnancy and delivery did not reveal any significant anomalies. Birth length was 44.0 +/- 3.0 cm (boys) and 43.8 +/- 2.1 cm (girls), birth weight 2.0 +/- 0.4 kg and 2.05 +/- 0.3 kg, respectively. Parathyroid cysts are an uncommon cause of neck masses which are of uncertain origin. Electron microscopic observations reveal the cysts to be lined by a simple absorptive rather than secretory cell, which rests on a basement membrane. These are not cheif cells. Smooth muscle forms an integral part of the cyst wall. These findings of simple epithelial cells and mesenchymal tissue (smooth muscle) support the concept that these cysts represent persistent embryological remnants. A likely source is the third pharyngeal pouch.
