Traumatic anterior hip dislocation is rare, because the hip joint is a highly stable joint. It is extremely rare for the anterior hip dislocation with combined bilateral femoral fracture in children. We present a case of 7-year-old boy with traumatic anterior hip dislocation with associated bilateral femoral fractures. Radiographic examination showed the right femoral head was dislocated anteroinferiorly. The ipsilateral femoral shaft showed a transverse femoral shaft fracture and proximal and distal femoral bifocal fractures of the contralateral femur. The dislocation of the right hip was red

BACKGROUND: The optimal treatment of displaced fractures of the proximal part of the humerus remains controversial. We evaluated the long-term functional and radiographic results of transosseous suture fixation in a series of selected displaced fractures of the proximal part of the humerus.
METHODS: Over an eleven-year period, a consecutive series of 188 patients with a specifically defined displaced fracture of the proximal part of the humerus underwent open reduction and internal fixation with transosseous sutures. Twenty patients were lost to follow-up and three died before the time of fol

INTRODUCTION: This case report describes a rare and complex upper limb injury involving ipsilateral traumatic floating elbow and floating forearm in a 35-year-old male. The patient suffered fractures of the left distal third humerus, olecranon, and both forearm bones, along with anterior radial head dislocation and radial nerve injury due to a pump explosion.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Open reduction and internal fixation of all fractures in a single operation was done with radial nerve exploration.
RESULTS: Post-operative care and rehabilitation led to successful fracture healing, near-full ran

We present the case of a 14-year-old patient who suffered fracture dislocation of the pisiform bone (PB) along with fractures of the scaphoid, proximal radius, and proximal phalanx of the thumb due to high-energy trauma directly to the extended wrist. This combination of fractures has not been previously reported in the literature. Currently, there is no consensus in the literature regarding the optimal treatment approach for such cases. In our management, initial attempts at closed and open reduction were unsuccessful, leading to the decision for primary pisiformectomy. Our report includes a

A nationally ranked Division One female collegiate tennis player presented with pain in the chest and right posterior rib region after feeling a popping sensation during a routine overhead movement. The patient was eventually diagnosed with 2 lower rib stress fractures. After unsuccessful conservative management, the player underwent an open reduction and internal fixation and autologous bone grafting of the sixth and seventh ribs with a muscle-sparing approach and was able to return to full competition. We present this case along with a systematic review of the literature regarding rib stress

Avulsion fractures of the ischial tuberosity usually occur in skeletally immature athletes following eccentric contraction of the hamstrings. When displaced fractures are left untreated, subsequent non-union and proximal hamstring fibrosis may lead to chronic pain and reduced activity. However, the indications for and outcomes of operative fixation when presentation is delayed remain unclear. We report the case of a 14 year old male athlete who presented to our institution 6 weeks after sustaining a displaced ischial tuberosity avulsion fracture. He underwent open reduction and internal fixati

INTRODUCTION: Distal humeral fractures in the elderly patient are a therapeutic challenge for orthopaedists, because of ages characteristic physiological conditions and bone changes.
CASE REPORT: We present the case of an 80-year-old woman with osteopenia, who had distal humeral fracture due to a fall from her own height; she was initially treated conservatively, but by the reason of a non-union, we decided to perform a total elbow arthroplasty, achieving a positive functional result in the four years of postoperative follow-up.
DISCUSSION: Nonsurgical management is an option for treat humer

INTRODUCTION: Anterior tibial tubercle fractures are relatively infrequent and occur mainly in young athletes 14 to 17 years old. Most fractures result from jumping during sports activities.
METHODS: We describe two cases of anterior tibial tubercle fractures. The latter were Ogden IIIA and IIIB. In both cases treatment consisted of open reduction and internal fixation with cannulated screws.
DISCUSSION: The mechanism of injury in the first case is more common than the one in the second case. The first case occurred after jumping to receive a pass during a basketball game. The second one occ

Radial head fractures are often secondary to a direct axial force, such as that involved in motor vehicle accidents and falls on an outstretched hand. The Hotchkiss-modified Mason classification is an excellent assessment tool in that it provides commonly accepted direction regarding treatment. For more unstable, comminuted displaced radial head fractures that cannot be reconstructed, replacement of the radial head is warranted. The surgeon should attempt open reduction and internal fixation with restoration of the radial head in anatomical alignment for most type II and some type III fracture

We treated 21 consecutive patients between 1998 and 2002 with complex tibial pilon fractures, eight type B and 13 type C, using percutaneous reduction and fixation with the small diameter Ilizarov apparatus. The average patient age was 34+/-5.6 years (range 28-52 years). Nine of the patients had open fractures (two type I, four type II, and three type IIIA). The patients were followed up regularly at 6-month intervals for 2 years. All fractures united. The fixator was removed at an average of 26.6+/-4.2 weeks (range 20-34 weeks). To assess the stability of the hip after acetabular fracture, dynamic fluoroscopic stress views were taken of 41 acetabular fractures that met the criteria for non-operative management. These included roof arcs of 45 degrees, a subchondral CT arc of 10 mm, displacement of less than 50% of the posterior wall, and congruence on the AP and Judet views of the hip. There were three unstable hips which were treated by open reduction and internal fixation. The remaining 38 fractures were treated non-operatively with early mobilisation and delayed weight-bearing. At a mean follow-up of 2.7 years, the

In the period from 1977 to 1982 78 children were treated for supracondylar fractures of the humerus at the Berufsgenossenschaftliche Unfallklinik Frankfurt/Main. Indications and methods for operative and conservative treatment are described. The results of therapy were reviewed by means of a questionnaire or reexamination in 68 patients with regard to function, elbow deformity and nerve lesions. Fractures of a grade I severity are to be treated conservatively by immobilisation in a POP-cast. Only in exceptional cases of grade II severity can a closed reduction be recommended. All remaining typ

One hundred and six patients with nasal fractures, treated by reduction in 65 per cent, were seen three months and three years after the trauma. The results were compared with a normal group. Sixteen patients (15 per cent) had sustained recent nasal injuries, and another four patients had undergone correction of the nose during the follow-up period. These patients were left out of the statistical analysis, which thus comprises 88 patients. Ninety per cent were satisfied with the result, and 84 per cent reported normal passage of air. Physical examination revealed a considerable number of defor

BackgroundThe role of arthroscopy in the management of ankle fractures is controversial. This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of intra-articular pathologies detected during arthroscopically assisted reduction and internal fixation (ARIF) of ankle fractures, stratified by fracture classification, for indirect comparison to current literature. We also present short- to mid-term patient-reported outcomes (PROs) for a subset of the participant cohort.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the intra-articular findings of 134 patients who underwent ARIF of ankle fractures. A statistical analysis w

INTRODUCTION: Open reduction and internal fixation has been the gold standard for displaced fracture involving weightbearing dome and fractures with intra-articular fragments. However, extensile exposure can lead to complications. Fracture with minimal displacement can be fixed by a minimally invasive method. Percutaneous screwing for an anterior column fracture of acetabulum under conventional 2D fluoroscopy is a demanding technique. With fluoroscopic-based computerized navigation, we can determine the position of a screw real time intra-operatively with less exposure to radiation. We propose

BACKGROUND: Hybrid fixation combining limited internal and external fixation has been proposed to improve alignment and stability in severe open tibial fractures, but its benefit in Gustilo IIIB and IIIC injuries remains unclear.
HYPOTHESIS: (1) Does hybrid fixation combining limited internal and external fixation (HF) improve alignment correction compared to external fixation (EF) alone? (2) Are final alignment outcomes improved with HF? (3) Do union rates, time to union, and complication rates differ between the HF and EF alone? (4) Is there a threshold for initial deformity above which HF
